Awe come on guys. Candy Camo = Doped up? I just found the clear coat in my life and I think I'm getting a little carried away, always skipped that step before. I just realized you gotta hit it while the paint is still wet(finally read the instructions).

So today I think I'll puff up and rebuild those Novi 42's

acr.jpgMatt,
I've mentioned the aircraft remover on here before. It's helped me several times. For example, when I was using my "Krylon Touch" for my HX, the stock purple pieces were painted black from the PO and were chipping/cracking, and after you spray it and give it the EXACT time that the bottle recommends, the ENTIRE sprayed paint peeled off in one piece like a sticker..it was so easy and quick.. I had also used the aircraft remover in the past for getting the STUPID MAILBOX numbers/letters off that the PO on my spx used...
the one I use looks like this, but I'm sure the one you used still works just as good:

< making mental notes, this stuff might come in handy

yea Spim if you look in my 1995 HX thread, I think I have a pic in there of me peeling the black spray paint off of the handlebar pad

They also make it in an aluminum container like Acetone and NAPTHA, which may work for some, but for my application, the spray works best.

and Matt, doped up or not, I think the engine looks top notch with that protective shell-like look, which will be a thousand times better for noticing less dirt, and probably easy to clean.

+1
I just love it that someone has the guts to do something different just for the fun of it. When this thing is done and installed in a clean hull, it is going to look awsome! And then it will run like a raped ape.

Ok, so I held back on commenting on the Mr. Hankey engine(until now) and also on the camo. But now you can actually see the effect of the paint it looks cool. You couldn't see the effect until you posted the pic of the rotary valve. It's almost like a mystic paint. If you would have posted some close ups (like you finally did) and not the dangler from 15' I think the point would come across better. When it was dangling it looked like you raided a yardsale of paint and just cut loose on every color. So bravo, it does look really cool! And the clear makes it pop. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see the hull.

I guess Im just old school...and its just my opinion. Just gotta give a buddy some shiznit. Ive never painted anything motorwise myself so what do I know. I freakin hate painting...doenst matter what kind. I have the patience for so many things in life and my new living room paint looks pretty dang good....but I really dont have the patience for painting.

painting: parts, walls, fences.. It all sucks IMO I cant stand it.

Drinking: now I have the patience for drinking, and i'm excellent at it.

Yeah it's a good group here. I pulled out the pipe today that I'm going to use. This pipe was made by Tim Tynan and called a TNT pipe. He made and still makes high end two stroke pipes but he only made a few for the 787. I have heard as few as 6 and I have two. This one pictured pressure tests. What I mean by that is that it is really a pipe within a pipe. The part we are looking at is a water jacket. When there are no leaks anywhere in either skin then it will hold air and can be verified with a pop off tester.

This pipe is the per-curser to the Neptune pipe that I like so much. Those are pretty rare themselves with only around 250 having been made(I have 9 haha). So this ultra rare prototype has been a "holy grail" part to me like the carbon fiber X4 hull itself. This pic is with no couplers or fittings

Now this I'm very excited about! Pics just came in tonight of my finished hood. I think you'll agree it's nothing short of greatness. Some members will remember this when Krispy found it and it was painted and cracked up. He has made a carbon fiber visor from the 96XP one I sent him so I can drill and attach if/when I want but I would have to drill holes and it looks pretty darn good as is.

He has made a mold of these parts so he can custom make them for folks in the future. Not sure about prices yet but the matching water box is $300 so that gives us an idea. I'll let you know more when I find out.

That is some top notch work. I have been thinking about having one of my single gauge hoods hydro dipped in carbon fiber I may have to do that now.

Thanks bud. Yeah I know I just keep starring at it.

He was all bummed that he could not get 100% of the bad crack out. it's in the carbon itself there on the lower left side

I would honestly have to make a custom cover just for the hood for when the ski is not in use.

Any detailed pics of the crack repair? I would love to hear how it was fixed.

Looking great!

He ground it down to the carbon and then added several layers of clear again. He said the underside was the easy part, have not seen it yet but don't really care how it looks under there. This guy is a craftsman who cares about his rep so it probably looks great.

I want the carbon hood one! Btw I have one of those TNT pipes in HX. Feels like a couple more HP more than FP.. heavy though!

I thought for a second I had one of those hand made TNT pipes but mine has less welds in the lower section. I would assume that makes it a neptune?

Yes the TNT has the rings welded together like a two stroke pipe under development. These pipes can beat a Spec 2. Here is a pic of a Neptune
