Looks sick.. you put those 96gsx corners on just because there rare didnt you..lol

You might be able turn the plug around and have the egt "inlayed". The plug and rubber ring would still stick out, but the egt would be farther in.

I would stick the lcd in the other one then you'll have tach and egt at the same time.

Thanks guys! Yes I think I'm going to loose blue as a color. I have the rest of the black rails from the 99GSX donor to install. Those 96 blue corners are the only ones that covered the shorter rails(it was originally a 96). The gauge insert is stepped down in size and a tight fit so it would be hard to reverse.

Today I put the first pump and nozzle combo back on to try and bring the revs down and the top speed up. This one has the water supply fitting in the pump(not the pump support like normal GSX's) so I have to silicone it in each time. I hope to try the results right before dark after giving it a little dry time.

I also hooked up a couple factory scuppers. They don't weigh much and might as well be in there trying to pump water out as I'm going along. Another thing that helps a lot but is not that sexy is rubber bumper placement. I like to take the rubber that comes on a water box support and cut it into smaller pieces. Then weatherstrip adhesive will hold them in a spot that stops a rattle.

Thanks Oscar for the plug offer. I want to get a fuel gauge for that hole though. The trim up button on my left thumb quickly changes the egt gauge's screen as planned. If I'm watching revs and my temp on either cylinder hits my preset limit then it will automatically change to that cylinder's screen as well as lighting a red led.

I don't have blk gsx rails, but I do have Red inserts from a xpl to bling it out more.. You could run LRV blk corners to fill it out maybe...

I'm hoping that it will all work out once I transfer all the stuff from the 99 over. I'm guessing the 96 rails are shorter because the corners were longer.

It's time for me to bundle up and go hit 63mph(keep your fingers crossed).

Nope just two different ways to go 59 and a half. The 85/88(85mm exit nozzle and 88mm steering nozzle) nozzles had me running well into the 7300rpm range. The crazy thing is that I had these RFI nozzles that are 82/86 and the boat still turned 73 something and went only 59.5mph. I need to try a taller impeller later.

Alright the freeze has past and now I'm just waiting for a break in the rain to make another high speed run. I have high hopes. I took a Solas impeller straight back from Impros pitched forward on the top and bottom to 17/26. I put it in a brand new Solas 140mm pump with a stainless steel wear ring. It has the 85/88 R&D nozzles so I'm looking for the revs to come down and the speed up!

I got the fuel gauge installed. I wired it in wear it all unplugs(learned those lessons) and I repaired the F1 fuse in the baffle so it operates the gauge perfectly. I just have not swapped the working baffle for the non working one in the tank yet.

I'll post back later with a max speed pick of 63. something(fingers crossed).

Man I just can't seem to blow past 60. The taller prop cut a lot out of my low end and mid range but still was just 60 on top. Very frustrating!

Desperate for a victory, I installed the repaired fuel baffle so now both gauges work perfectly.

Are you planning to race this one? Found this old image for big red racing

I might race it. I have another race ski to play it off but it requires expensive race fuel and I am trying to make something that I can use for everything year round.

I like that pic. You can tell it's the same year from the decals.

Drop a few pounds. You will be sub 60's.

Yeah that is part of the plan. It really does make a big difference because I see a 2-3mph change just depending on how much fuel is in the tank.

Today I made a stainless mount that locates the DESS post to the right of the steering stem. It matches the other side that I have my primer in. SS is really tough to work with and it turned out nice so I had to mention it(pics later). Now I have to figure out what to cover the hole with that the fuel selector was in.

Well yesterday I read the rules for the new race classes that will involve the Sparks and my beloved old two-strokes(Runabout Rec Lites and Runabout 1000 Superstock). To my dismay they say "no aftermarket hulls". This is a game changer for this build and my overall fleet plan.

I might have to make this a rec rider only and give up on it returning to the starting line again. If that is the case I will back off the performance a bit and make it more efficient improving range and longevity. It is light enough that I can still probably hit 60+ with it constantly that way.

I'm just trying to see the bright side here. It's not like my carbon fiber hull can be much lighter(if any) than a plastic Spark hull.

Just talk with the event organizer and the other people involved in the class. As long as it doesn't give you an advantage and you aren't racing nationally or at world finals, they will probably let you run it.

Our racing is so small up here we just want skis on the line.

Well I'm covered on a race machine anyway. I am gonna back off of the "raceness" of this one for now. I like the set up of my X4 with the stripes and I have the similar parts. I have a little rv oil leak coming from the big welch plug on the under side of the motor. Since I have to pull it out again, I'm gonna toss in a non ported one this time.

Well kinda....see I'm gonna try a 787 that I built up on RFI cases. They have a larger and unobstructed intake opening because they don't have that little ridge cast in at the bottom of the opening. It also has a case cooler that I will incorporate into my water routing.

I had another set of Red Top 44mm carbs but they were incomplete so today I fixed them up and was delighted to see that I had the matching manifold. I used a Rossier rotary valve that has a special cut to it that is supposed to make the engine pull harder. I will be putting the Big Red Racing billet head on here so the engine will sort of mirror the look of the hull.

I put some outside pics in there to show you that missing DESS post holder I made and that I got the rails swapped over to all black.

Got some movement today. Here is a pic of that oil in the hull. I'm not about to do all this and have something broken about it. I put the leaker on the bench and ground down the old patch, then patched it again.

The other engine dropped in nicely. I pressure tested the case cooler cavity under it and it was perfect so I am going to route my cool incoming water through it before it fills the pipes water jacket. I filled the rotary chamber earlier to make sure it didn't have any leaks. The Big Red Racing head switched over nicely. I had a nearly new OEM starter on another engine that I robbed and painted red. No more crazy colors, lol, things under the seat fit the theme of the ski.

I'm looking for an 8" handlebar pad that would be appropriate. I would love a UMI one. Or even better a plain black or red one with a big Budweiser decal across it!! I have not been able to find such things....any suggestions?

I got to test ride it for the first time (again) today. I really like the new engine and pump. I am still breaking it in so I can't go for top speed runs yet but it feels fast. I think I may have nailed it this time. No leaks or hesitation anywhere. I hope to have it broke in, tuned and legal by next Sunday for the Spim at Suwanee river ride.

Compression is only 160psi with the domes I have in that head so it should be plenty pump gas safe. Notice that I hit it with cut out rave caps and billet rave pistons.

It's been so nasty out I have only ridden it one other time. I did clock it at 59mph and it gets there quickly of coarse. It needs to break in and I can tune it a little leaner to 60 but that looks like it. The engine does run nice and cool so I'm hoping for a long life.

The fancy Skat Trak pump does not have the holes cast in it for the stock bilge. I went with the lightest and simplest solution and put a duckbill valve on the rear where the right side drain was. Since there is no trim system I came up with a pretty slick solution. I tightened up plastic washers to create a friction adjustable trim ring and it will stay where I leave it, but can be moved up and down without tools.

I took it by the sign shop and had my Fl #'s made to look like the Big Red Racing decals that came on the ski. I threw a storage bin in it with a fire extinguisher and registration, etc. so I'm feeling ready to meet a water officer while far from home. I found that UMI crossbar pad and stuck it on there. I'll get more pics soon.
