I have two "96" (Ithink?) 787 motors that will power my 97 SPX and 96 GSX next season... I have read that that the stator pickup bracket is prone to breaking in this year engine... Is there a remedy for reinforcing the bracket before I reassemble? Also I will attempt to attach 2 photos showing the difference between the two stators which I think both are from 96 engines. Any comments on the differences?

It looks to me like the second one has the update. Notice the ears folded up behind the bolt holes on the pick up bracket to add integrity.

Thanks Matt, That's what I wondered... That bracket does look cleaner and the bolts look much newer than the other, like it has been changed out...
Where can I find another one of these brackets?

Dave.

You can get OEM parts from this site's host at the top of the page. We often recommend Minnetonka4me (member one here) for good used parts.

Okay, I checked the Seadoo warehouse and no wonder I couldn't find it... It was in the oil pump parts area, go figure... It appears that they want $112 for the whole assembly, I just want the bracket... I will keep searching and check with the member... Thanks again, your response was very helpful!

I tried looking for just the bracket this summer and had no luck, had to buy the whole unit for like $70. I was fortunate that when mine broke it didnt shatter the pick up and I could still use it. I didnt want to wait for shipping so I welded the broken one, so far so good. I now have a spare for when one breaks.
You can try to PM Minnetonka4me, he might have some newer style used brackets laying around.

Thanks Kicker, I did PM Minnetonka4me to ask about the part. I will spend the $70 if I have too before I put the engine back in the ski, but man I would hate to spend that much just to get a $5.00 part.

I would have never recommended it...I rarely hear or see them break but on both of my personal skis they broke within a WEEK of each other. One of them ran all sorts of weird too, very random so when I was trying other things it would change like it was part of the problem when it was the bracket the whole time.

Once they were replaced my back up boat ran better than it has for years! That one fell off at IDLE! LOL The other one broke on a hard landing on some cross chop.
