Hi all, a few moths ago I purchased two 2004 GTX 4 Techs, the normally aspirated models. The owners manual is a complete dissapointment regarding any maintenance issues other than to recommend the dealer for service. I'd like to perform my own maintenance, not repair, oil changes, battery maint., flushing, winterizing, etc. Can I access that information on this site somewhere? Also, I watch PWC owners routinely start their machine while on the trailer after removal from the water to "blow out" the water in the exhaust system. Is this necessary, or even desireable? I would never run my boat engine while out of the water to prevent burning of the water pump impeller. Thanks in advance for your help and direction. Jim

Watch them.....

Yes, watch them. They seem to know what they are doing to their skis when they pull them up.

When you pull your ski out of the water, starting it up for a second or so, blows out the water standing in the exhaust system that didn't drain when you pulled it out. This is a good practice to make sure, any residual water pockets left in the exhaust doesn't find it's way into your combustion chamber. This would happen during your drive home, the ski bouncing on the trailer.

You have a closed loop system with antifreeze in it that cools the motor. You have an open loop system in it that cools your exhaust gases, making your engine more efficient. The open loop also cools the intercooler if so equipped.

There is a ton of info in here for you to learn from. If you go through the topics, you'll find procedures for changing your oil, what type oil, flushing, winterizing............and more.

Welcome to the forum............

Thanks Snipe

Thanks for the reply. Where can I purchase a maintenance manual that outlines the steps for the minor maintenance I'm able to perform? Oil/filter changes, airfilter etc. From someone here on these forums? The dealer? The manual must describe routine maintenance to be performed based on engine hours. Appreciate your help. JG
