Looking to purchase 2010 GTI 130hp 4 TEC w/400hrs

I am new to the 4 stroke market and have a chance to purchase a 2010 GTI 130hp. In our area they typically sell for $7500 to $8500 depending on hours and condition. The one I am looking at is selling for $5000, it is in nice shape but has 400 hrs on it. (good for the owner, I wish I had time to put 200 hrs on a machine in a season).

My question is this
If a typical 2 stroke last 200 to 300 hrs with moderate maintenance and care, what would you get outta the 130 hp 4Tec motor. Will they last to 600 hrs with out to much trouble? I know alot is going to depend on how well it was looked after by the previous owner but I would like to just get an idea compared to an average 2 stroke how much longer the 4 stroke will last, if it even last longer then a 2 stroke given the same attention in regards to maintenance/care.

An input/opinions would be appreciated

I am in Ontario and the reality of it is we pay about 15%-25% more for these things, depending on the model. My sister bought a 2012 this summer cost her $11000 plus tax for the 130 and she shopped around. I should also mention that it does come with a single trailer.
Maybe I should consider buying something in your area with less hours for the same money. Just getting across the border can be a pain and expensive.

I would take a serious look at buying a boat from up north.

First, they are substantially cheaper and they will have less hours on them due to the fact the season is both shorter and we seem to have crap weather on the weekends...

Even if you bought something as far up as Ohio. It would be cheap enough to justify the travels and you would still have HUNDREDS of less hours.

I bought my skis new in late 2010. I have 23 hours on them,,,,,

I'm just saying there are better option as compared to 400 hrs...

Thanks for the input, I will definitely look into purchasing something in the northern states and see where it goes. Back to my original question in regards to how reliable is a 130 4 Tec and how long do they last compared to a 2 stroke (787/951 for eg). Would it be 100's of more hours before requiring a rebuild? 2X longer? etc

I wouldnt bet it would last much longer.

4-Techs are 2 or 3 times better based on how they were driven and maintained.

I would be concerned with 400 or soo hours as I would think that in the next season it would likely start to show sign of wear.

One thing I would do for sure if you are still considering this specific ski as a comperssion test... That would be very helpful in making your decision...

Thanks all for your help, I will do a comp test prior to purchase for sure. Spent a couple of hours looking for something in the US today and only found some new ones for 7900 plus frieght PDI taxes ETC, Ill keep searching though, the 400 hrs on this one even at a reasonable price (for my area) still worries me.

Im in Ontario too. What dealer did you purchase from ? I was just quoted $11,100 + Tax for a 2013 GTI SE WITHOUT trailer.

Yeah in my opinion that price is too high, of course its hard to compare to prices in your area.

If these motors could get 600-800 hrs on them before a rebuild, I would say it is a good deal, but if they blow up after 2-300 hrs like the 2 stokes I'm used to then its not a good deal at all, they also cost almost twice as much to rebuild.

For a two year old ski to have that many hours, it almost has to be a rental. I would stay away.

The one good thing about a rental up here is most rental outfits only use the learner key in them, so they have never been WOT, the questionable part would be the maintenance and how diligent they were keeping them up.

Hey Kicker, If you heart is set on it you gotta lowball him a bit that's alot of hours even if its only see 85% throttle (I also understand the prices we pay, thats still really highly priced). I do all my shopping for pwc(s) in the US, actually on my way to ohio in two weeks for an RXP. My advice keep looking, unless you can get it at like $5-6K ... also stay away from anything that's seen salt you don't want the headaches.

Thanks for the tip, the one I was looking at is $5000 with 400hrs. Are you buying new in the US from a dealer? Or used? BTW thanks for the offer but I have 4 teenagers that are a little nuts with my toys and they will kill themselves on an RXP.

We'll his asking price is definatley on par for the price up here. I got my number skewed in previous post sorry for the confusion. '11 with 400 hrs in October offer $3800 and settle somewhere in between. Good luck ...

BTW that's what they have learner keys for Lolz!! I've got a couple neices in their teens ... just send them out with the white key!!

cool I forgot about the learner key, Ive only had the old 2 stokes, no brakes, reverse, learner key or OPAS. Know of any good sites other then craigs list, to search for a seadoo in the north East US?
