Floor hatch spring is in the way, gets between floor and door when closing.

I was going to just remove it. Any other suggestions?

It has a kink in it so when it closes it pops right into the gap between the door and the floor and is cracking the gelcoat on both, and makes the door stick up a quarter inch or so.

I don't want to have to leave it open while I take out anchor, skis, rope, etc, then hope it doesnt fall shut while I get rid of those, and come back to grab that spring and hold it out of the way while I close it with two hands.

Just a minor annoyance, but I deal with it all day long...

Hmmmm. Nothing?

Is this a fluke problem? Nobody else has seen it happen?

I guess I will just remove the spring. Maybe put in a small cable instead. Like on the cooler hatch.

Have you tried to see if there is a replacement spring from seadoo? I wouldnt think that would cost that much.

Don't want to replace it if it is a common problem and the next spring will do the same thing.

This one has 2 kinks in it from where it has been pinched between the floor and door. If everyone says it is a fluke, I will replace it. If everyone says it is common, I will swap in a chunk of stainless cable instead.

By the way, thanks for being brave enough to be the first person to respond to this thread:cheers:

I havent had my boat long, but it is 11 years old and the spring still looks new. I am thinking yours just got caught up and kinked at some time.

and when you close it it automatically drops downward and stays out of the way?

If so, I will just swap out the spring.

Mine automatically kinks to the side so it jams under the door.

I guess I could just cut the rivets and turn it 180 and reinstall it, then it would force itself downwards and inward rather than over to the side that pinches it...

Hmmmmmmm...:reddevil:

If I am just pushing down on it, yeah it wants to automatically kink a little. Just a slight little poke in the middle with a foot or hand fixes that problem though.

That is the problem. Most of the time when I am closing it, I have a hand full of anchor and chain, ski line, fishing pole, etc. I don't have the third hand to push in the spring and close the hatch.

Then before I get a chance to empty my hands and close the hatch, the boat has rocked a bit and the hatch has fallen closed and landed on the spring, taking another chip out of the gelcoat and causing more cracks in it.

I think I will try to use the kink to my advantage and turn the spring around so it drops down into the hole rather than onto the hull.

I just yesterday bought a rivet gun to replace the plastic hinges on all my hatches. So I think I will buy the bigger rivets and just flip that spring around and see how it works.

I think the kink is causing the problem. Mine is kinkless, and it is very sturdy. You HAVE to give it the little poke to close. I can ride around all day with the door open and it wont close itself. I think a new spring would fix it. I bet someone on here parting a boat out might have one.

Aaaaahhhh! So if the spring is not kinked, it actually sorta holds the door OPEN, and my kinks are making it come closed too easily....

Makes all the sense in the world.

Thanks for the help!

Well, I just cut off the spring. I am putting HydroTurf on that hatch, so when it opens, it will cushion it as it lays against the console.

No more cracked gelcoat...and no more money invested.
