adding a fuel filter

Should be fine, I like to use 5/16 filters with the 1/4" fuel line. It just a little less restrictive, with the 720 there will be no issue. You can also get them at any auto parts store too.

i have a 657 should still be fine right?

I had the grey lines clogging my carb and a fellow seadoo member (Donkey) advised me to add a fuel filter as a temp. fix. I got one at Havasu Landing on the colorado River for 3.59 and added it at the end of the grey lines with about two inchs of regular fuel line before the carb. It worked great! Two tanks of gas on my 720 GS and not a single issue.

A very temporary fix, the next thing to plug up will be your selector switch, then run lean, and BOOM.

As Donkey said, get them out! 2 hours and $25, not worth the risk

That one may be a little small. It's for a "Moped/Scooter". What... 10 hp?? You need to support fuel flow for +80 hp. Stick with the larger automotive filters.

Did you confirm the fuel line size? After reading my manual I found that my 01 GTX takes mostly 8MM (5/16) fuel line with some 6MM (1/4) line. Yours might be different though since its a different year.

The line that comes out of your water separator and goes to your carbs. In other words put the filter between the water separator and the carbs.
Yours will look a little different, but you will get the idea.

The cheap auto fuel line is more than adequate and I'm pretty sure a 99 GTX will need the 5/16 for the larger hp engine, look on the parts websites or the manual.
