They are just stock seadoo grips from newer 4 tecs. They need a spacer as they are too short. I found a rubber tube with the same inner diameter to slide over the handlebars and the same outer diameter to match the end of the grips. You also have to reuse your hardware the new hardware is different.

That's gonna look awesome!!! If you were near me I would buy that from you in a heartbeat! I'm sure that won't last long on the for sale list....;)

I love that colour combo. I actually like that better then the original look. Well done JSG!

Ditto! It will be funny, I guarantee one of these days, one of JSG's customers who buys a ski he restored will become an enthusiast and stumble upon how his ski was rebuilt from the ground up

I am on the phone with hydroturf now. I havent recieved a tracking number yet and It has been a while. He said their system has not been sending out tracking emails. So he is tracking down the paperwork

Well, he said they shipped on 1-28 but they went to the wrong person. He said the package is suppose to be returned today and then shipped to me. Apparently they knew last week and never called me or sent me an email. I would figure the day they figured it out they would have just sent me new ones. I wouldnt have thought they would wait for someone to send mine back. I hope the guy who received mine didnt slice them when opening the package or mess with the 3m backing. He said they should be here Friday. They may have just somehow misplaced the order and didnt get to it and they are doing it right now.

LOL its a great point! He's built a ton over the winter...eventually one has to stumble across a build thread.

But then again since JSG is going thru them top to bottom there should years of trouble free service!

your finish work really puts mine to shame... and I like the idea of the red/black mat's, i'm never a fan of two tone mats, but its always the camo mats that turn me off, I never knew they offered that style :) its sexy !

Fantastic work my man !

Great looking ski JSG. I hope it stays up north though, nobody could ride that with a black seat down here in August. I don't know, maybe you could anchor it upside down when you're not on it. haha

disagree, everybody in my ride group has a black seat, in Florida, i've never had an issue, even on the hottest days, a quick spash of water on the seat and problem is solved. (i've had a black seat since 2009)

Black seats are fine, and our summers are hot, this year we had alot of high 90s and some 100 degree days. We dont rides these with ice floating next to us lol so being in the midwest isnt a factor. You just splash some water on them and you are good to go. Its not a boat where the interior just cooks. The seats constantly get water on them.

Thanks but we all know no matter how well these are maintained, or how new your motor is, you always run into some unseen problem eventually. Break a sponson, suck up a ton of seaweed and overheat, fuel float magnet fall off. Seems like murphy's law with these lol.

For the handle bar pads. I just was just wondering if there was a little gouge or scratch in the handle bar pad what you would fill it with. I painted the hood with krylon fusion black turned out nice but i figured the pad needed more prep so i took it home before hitting it with the spray paint.

Paint won't stick to silicone( unless it's marked paintable) and I'd venture to say it will eventually lift. JSG may have a trick up his sleeve.

Oh, wait you were talking about the rubber handle bar pad--shoot. Yeah, not too much you can do. You can use VM&P Naptha on a rag but you'll need to do the entire thing and it will very slowly "melt" the rubber away and you can work out any light inperfections. But for a deep gouge, I don't think there is any fixing that. The ones JSG is painting are not the rubber ones like yours, the later ones are a plastic.

You can cover it for $35

Here is a little surprize I havent seen anyone do to a seadoo. I was pm'ing racerxxx that I would like to put the logo back on the seat. Well doing what he does best(well next to bringing things back from the grave) he did some research and came across a site on stenciling vinyl seats. So I contacted Dr Honda to see if he could make this happen. Well Dr Honda called his supplier and here is what we came up with. Im sure you guys will love it.

I just used duplicolor vinyl spray paint.
If you try this, the seat has to be very clean, the room temp, seat and can of paint need to be at least 70 degrees. It is very important that all of them are at correct temp. We got 2 stencil kits from Dr Honda and I am glad we got 2. The first tried on a piece of scrap vinyl and the paint was too cold and I laid the paint down too heavy. The result of that was the stencil started to buckle and look like bacon. So I then waited until everything was warm and went at it again. This time we used very very light coats. I sprayed the first coat so light it looked like pin sized speckles, I waited for that to tack up and test the tackiness by touching the paint on the masked off areas. The paint would tack up in about 15 seconds and then i would add another light coat and repeated those steps about 18-20 times. The trick is to keep it light and then let tack up before the next coat. As soon as you think you have enough coverage you need to remove the stencil before it dries. Just take off the masked area first then slowly peel off the stencil.

SAAAAAAAWEET!!!!!!!!! I knew it would work. Just glad I remember it from seeing guys stencil HONDA and the like on their vintage trikes(another favorite of mine). Thanks for the props JSG. Just another way this forum rocks. And a BIG THANKS to the DOC for making the stencil happen!

That looks awesome in the red! Now I'm pissed that the mats aren't on it yet. WOO HOO!

Oh, yeah---Ummm Bacon:drool5:

That looks fantastic. Are the stencils themselves sticky or is it just the tape that is holding it in place. I thinking about the bleading if you don't get a good seal again the seat. Kinda like cheap masking tape when my wife paints the trim in the house.

And dude really--iPad pics, why not the new Galaxy SIII??????

Kicker have your wife use Frog tape-It's tha bomb, I won't paint a wall with out it. I love laser straight lines without bleed out.

The stencils are made to adhere to the vinyl, Dr Honda ordered stuff specifically for this. It is like a sticker. You just pull off the mask on the back, then apply it straight to the seat. Then pull the mask on the outside off. Its very simple, it is just like any other decal sets. You have to apply these dry though, you dont use soap, water and a squegee with these.
