Nice, I was going to leave that exact saying about fat chicks, I was in high school the first time I heard that joke but then it was geared towards mopeds. _________ and fat chicks are fun to ride until your friends see you. Fill in the blank, endless possibilities. i was going to fill in the blank with fords, just to get a reaction from you Dan, but that kind of banter is better left for another forum lol

Yep, it probably originated with the moped. When me and my BIL are around each other it's one liner after another, relentless! You can razz me on anything, I don't take anything personally, I'm usually way to laid back.

Tonight, I didnt get much done, just drilled out the old mats, took of the hood and removed the rest of the decals.

I know the quality of the pictures suck, you would figure after paying $500 for an ipad it would have a decent camera but nope

We will be taking tomorrow off but Monday we are going to start wet sanding the top half, you can see in these pictures it is yellowing

Headed to the warehouse now for 3 hours of wet sanding, should not be fun seeing as we rinse it down outside between grits and it is -6 degrees with the wind chill.

Good luck with that, if it's like mine. I've been wet sanding the white gelcoat to get rid of the ghosting of the decals without much luck, started using 250 grid. Hull is still the same with yellowing. Sean

Well here are some pics of us wet sanding

When wetsanding you should see a paste like substance forming, the sand paper will also start to clog with gelcoat. You can see it in these pictures, you can also see exactly where we have wet sanded to in some of the pictures. You can see it is white where we sanded and then you can see the yellowing where the old decals were. As you can see the yellowing is gone.

If you try this make sure you sand in circles, also rinse the paper when it clogs, also rinse the hull down frequently

Here is a before

We just did the first step tonight, we ran out of sandpaper, so we will come back to it and touch up any areas that need it and move to the next step,

As you can see almost all of the yellowing, or ghosting is gone. If you look at the pictures before you can see exactly where the decals where by the yellow all around them.

Here are tonights progress

When it dries it will look chalky and dull, then we will go to a finer grit, we have about 3-4 more wetsanding steps, then on the buffing. The only reason it looks shiny is there is water all over the hull from us rinsing it. It will look like flat paint tomorrow

Mine didn't come out as good. I only did the front nose part and it looks the same. Maybe its the cheap harbor fright paper? My hull was also chalky and I rinsed a lot too. It the first time I wet sanded some maybe it just takes more time, I only spend about 40 minutes on the front. Sean

That was 2 hours 2 guys, same grit you used, then we will use 320,600,800,1000. Make sure you use a sanding block that will bend with the contours of the hull.

Well that why us new guys ask so many questions, you pros seem to have all the answers. I didn't use a block, but I know I have one some where, and I'll try it working on it again tomorrow. Is 250 grid wet paper ok? just making sure. thanks, Sean

Many people start with a finer grit like 400-600 but that is sooooo much work, it would take hours and hours to knock off the yellow, as long as you dont skip steps and you take your time with the other steps it will come out good. Remember that 250 is putting alot of scratches in the gelcoat, so each additional step is taking out the last scratches but is leaving their own behind. That is why you have to do so many steps, and when your done sanding it will feel super smooth but look very dull. When done you have to buff it to bring back the shine. This is why white hulls suck.

I just ordered the mats from hyrdoturf, we ordered 2 toned cut groove, in my opinion the best looking mats out there. The price is $20 more for 2 tone and $14 more for psa, and shipping was $15, the mats were $85 plus all the extra charges put them at $119 then shipping put me at $134.
