Adam what does your blast guy charge and where is he located I thought about buying a small blast setup from harbor freight

the large cabinet from HF actually works pretty well, I bought the cabinet and before I assembled it I realized that I'd need a much much bigger compressor than my little pancake job.... ended up selling the cabinet because I had no idea where i'd fit a monster tank for a big compressor.

I had FullBore do my 717 cylinders and would have them do work again but the chamfering was not ac clean as I like and the sleeve was not as close a match to the factory ports as I would have liked but for a stock rebuild it was fine. I just had my 787 jugs sent to Group K for a bore and they look perfect and they clearanced the RAVE valves for $110 plus shipping. I sent them factory 1st over pistons. It has been about 10 years since I had Group K do any cylinders for me and they still do great work.

I do not care for the quality of the SBT gasket kits so I use WSM 007-624 and for their complete kit with crank and rotary seals it is only $56.84 on Amazon.

My blast cabinet is in milledgville. Not too far from you, just let me know when and I can meet you there.

Let me know your availability. Also what kind of media do you use I will pick some up. I'm self employed so I can usually rearrange my schedule to suit my needs. I am booked up through Friday though.

Any ideas on repairing this? The glass underneath looks fine I don't see any signs of cracking.

Looks like I may end up doing new gelcote on the top half of the hull. Just wondering on the amount it will take.

There's a few more small section here and there. I thought about grinding them out and making a repair but doubt as old as the gelcote is it would match

New gelcote will never match the old so you would have to do the entire top deck. Not what you want to hear but the easy fix would buy some replacement decals to cover it back up.

X2

A large portion of those cracks will be covered with fresh decals. Wet sand, buff, decal--done. If it only were that easy.

Yes the decals would cover, but I would know its there. I am a perfectionist I will admit that. The other thing is the original decals had tiny splits in them so imo it would still have to be addressed to prevent the new decals from splitting. I priced the gelcoat from the oem source which is gelcoat.ca or gelcote international . Only real question is how much would it take . Sometimes I need to be saved from myself I can go overboard on projects lol.

Lol have you checked out racerxxx 95 xp800 build???

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

Not sure on that one I have read the HX one but don't remember the 96 one. Man I hope Jettrim doesn't go out of business I want to get both of my seats redone before summer.

Yeah the "clapped out" thread is a good one. Kind of Racer's self provided introduction around here and I must say it shows well and he has lived up to it. There is another early thread of him rebuilding crusty carbs that were way past it just to show he could....great stuff! I still toss problem carbs but I take additional time and enjoy my rebuilds more since. I have also upped my appreciation for OEM parts.

The spider cracking is a tough one. I understand your urge to make it new again but you can't overstate the value of a "well placed sticker" (a Spim term, haha). I just don't think your awesome result will be devalued at all by it in the end.

I also hope Jettrim keeps on moving. I can't think of a good second option other then maybe calling up the M-line guy and asking if he was just a one trick pony?

Thanks for the praise guys! Yes, my 95 did not have any spider cracks in the gel, it actually was really clean. The under side did have a bunch of fine scratches. The amount of thin ribbons of yellow gel coat would have looked like a yellow zebra with darker yellow stripes. So I chose to leave it because I know in my "perfect" mind that would have been the end of me knowing it looked like shit. Much easier for me to deal with it have what I like to call hull patina. I also know that I will beach the ski on the sand when I ride, so I would be doing work just to ruin it again. I too strive for perfection(or close to it), but you need to draw a line in the sand so to speak. The top deck of these 95's is thinner glass than a 96+ X4's. So after spending time, money and a butt load of elbow grease could literally be back into the same situation shortly after you re-gel the deck. Or you have issues putting the gel down and have to sand your arm of to get it perfect. I'm not trying to detract you from fixing it, but some times it's best to let sleeping dogs lie and maybe put a decal over them.

If Jettrim is out you might want to give A.P. Designs a call, they used to do some awesome custom work back in the day.
