Winter Project?

Well, I'm not sure if I'm getting these or not it's contingent of obtaining Clear KY Titles, the current owner is work of getting the titles. In the process we found these in the paperwork. Certificates of Origin, these are not supposed to leave the hands of the manufacturer or the dealer, they are sent to the state of the sale and the titles are issued by that state.

I found this interesting and thought maybe some of y'all would too.

That's good news. Back in 96 when I bought my XP's I left the dealer with the MSO's like you have. I bought them in NJ. Being that I live in PA, they could not do a PA registration so when I registered them in PA I had to pay sales tax and give them the MSO's. Possibly they were purchased in another state? and somehow they got to keep the MSO's? When I bought my Speedster in 99 I requested a photo copy of the MSO, I like to keep every piece of paperwork associated with an vehicle I buy.

I love the shady HP rating 42.0---that's the pumps HP.

Also, these are identical ski's, 96XP's did you notice the different weights?

Lou

The 600# XP , the paper work was done on a Sunday (1/15/96)---someone was probably pissed they had to do paperwork on a Sunday!

What else is cool is, the one built in 95 had the paperwork done almost immediately, were the one built in March had the paperwork done in June. They must have pumped up production.

Matt,

To tell the truth it was not all good news, the good ski was better than I expected, 152 & 153 psi compression. However the bad ski was worse, the motor is seized, so in my way of thinking I'm buying one good ski and one for parts. I'm not going to invest in a rebuilt motor, but it could be an easy fix.

This makes number 4 and 5, I'm running out of room to put these things, could I bring a couple down there?

Lou

What condition is the hull of the ski you are going to part out? I may be interested as the hull I have is kinda sketchy.

Well..... I don't exactly have them yet, we're having a problem getting titles. The deal is contingent on the owner providing me with clear KY titles.

Lou

oh well i guess i just saw the "2-96 XP's" below your avatar on another post so I figured you finally sealed the deal. Crossing my fingers for ya, I hate those title discrepancy problems

I have the MSO for a dirt bike since it doesn't have a title in PA. Also... in 96... some states didn't require a title. So that's probably why he had them. I know my XP... I'm the first "Titled" owner, but it was registered before.

The older skis are fun... but I think my next project is going to be a 4-tec. In the next year or so... I figure we will start to see more failures, and "Project" 4-tec's show up. I want one partly just to get a little more modern... but the other reason is... I don't have much time working on them. (Other than the typical oil change, or starter solenoid change) I want some real first hand experience with them.

I was thinking along the same lines, I'm also looking for an early GTI 4-Tek, but every time one comes up at a good price it's gone before I can see it. I figured for a 4-tek this is about as basic as it gets.

I did find this today, I may go and see it this weekend, it looks to be in real good shape, it might make more sense to get on good one than two junk ones for about the same price.

Love the look of those 96 XP's
great looking machine IMO & looks like its 2 years old. RAVE engine, right?

The Saga Continues

Well and careful consideration and since it doesn't appear that the owner will be able to come up with clear KY titles for the two 96XP's I've been thinking that since I'm not in the parts business that maybe one good ski might be better than two junk ski's I pursued the 96XP in southern Indiana.

I talked to the guy this evening he said the ski was real strong and he had gone through everything. He claimed to be some kind of mechanic. I asked him about the compression, he said 130 in both cylinders, which he said was good. I said it wasn't and it would soon be time for a top end rebuild, rather than argue the point I thanked him for his time.

So I'm on to greener pastures. I'm sorta looking for an early model 4-tek, something simple like a GTI. Maybe take the 4-tek out and put in a Chevy small block. Something I can get my feet wet on.

Make sure you add some extra foam for flotation as it may sit a "wee bit" lower in the water with 283-350 in it :) :) :)
