Hello everybody I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I recently acquired a 2008 Seadoo Rxt-x 255 that was abandon at a piece of rental property I own. I took the ski to the local dealer to have it looked at and they called to inform me that the engine was locked up. At a cost of 8500 for a new engine I don't think I'm going to try to fix it. So my question is what is it worth.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Who gave you that quote for the new motor? Do you have the key for it?

the dealer gave me the price and yes I have the key.

They aren't called stealerships for nuthin.

Did you try to start it yourself?

I'd put in a new battery...see if it cranks. If it does crank over...new gas and plugs.....if not, pull plugs and try again....total investment....$150...maybe a bit more.

I also think a second opinion is a wise thing to do.

You can get premium rebuilt engines for 900 to 1200.

Something to seriously consider....

Would love to know where to get a premium 4tec rebuilt for 1200. By premium I mean with some type of warranty. Sbt premium is closer to 3g's when all said and done (shipping and the usual "core damage fee" as they usually have some damage)

Just had my rxt done after dropping a valve. Engine has a 2 year "no fault" warranty.

Bigger question is can you get a title for it ?

Price depends on how long you want to wait for right buyer. There was one on here recently (2005 I think) and ge was letting go for 1000 with trailer. Would imagine you could get 1500 for it, but it's getting late in the season (I am in Va to) so that may play into it.

I do know a guy who may be interested in ski only if you decide to go that route.

SES sells PREMIUM engines.

This is a cut and paste from their site... "Our PREMIUM engine is the S.E.S. pride and joy. It has better quality parts and is dynamically balanced. It comes with a 2-year NO FAULT warranty."

800 to 1200 depending on the engine...

I am almost positive that is for a 2 stroke. I dont think you would find a 4 tek anywhere under 1500.

You could be right. I glanced at the list was all,,

A 4 tec is from SBT starts around 2g's... by time you are done with a 2 yr warranty its close to 3g's... and then you have to remove engine, swap some components ( starter, manifold, sensors) , rebuild super charger while you have it out, new plugs, oil, filters... you can budget for 4 - 4.5 g's and you may come out ahead depending on your labor rate.

Typically there is some damage to block that is locked up, so also figure that in. SBT has pictures / charges for all of there types of potential damage. For a dropped valve, mine repair to core was a $200 weld charge.

These suckas ain't cheap..... I put 2 350 marine long blocks in my Sea Ray for a few hundred dollars more.... The 4 tec is a beauty until something goes wrong...

They may be telling you the truth....this time.

I wouldn't bet on it though. Bring it home and look for yourself.
