I am looking into a seat cover for my 96XP. This will be a birthday gift from my wife.

The way I see it I have 5 options.

1.Jet trim (too much $ for my budget)
2.mline (looks good on the website, haven't heard any actual feedback) a bit expensive but doable.
3.blacktip, looks ok. Good price point, however a bit common.
4.Generic ebay cover, basically a stock replacement at a great price.
5. Buy marine vinyl and make my own cover(see above )

What have your experiences been with these options? Any other ideas?

Any tips on material choices? I am what you would call an aggressive rec. rider. As in, I don't currently race, but I have been to a few races and may run the bouys from time to time for fun.

My only experience is with Blacktip, and you can get a custom cover, I did. It took a whole afternoon but the results were well worth it. You will absolutely need an air stapler, a heat gun unless you can do it on a sunny day, and use stainless steel staples. I don't know if you can or want to wait, but I got mine half price on black friday.

I like my blacktip cover. Was super cheap, since I bought it on black friday. Plenty of extra material, and seemed to stretch well once warmed up. I tossed mine in the dryer for 5 mins or so. Got it nice and warm and made it quite pliable.

Jettrim is my vote. I am just a rec rider. Personal machines get the jt treatment, all other get just marine grade vinyl with a seadoo stenciled on with vinyl paint

Worth every penny.

Those wrinkles have since been fixed too

I bought vinyl from yourautotrim.com, cost me like $16 plus shipping. I never wrapped a seat before, I tried the hair dryer with no extra results. Jetskigoodies has told me that wrapping the HX seat was one of the harder ones to do. This took me 3 hours doing it by myself. I too used the Harbor freight stapler. I'll say total with the stapler and staples and material I'm around $60 into the seat. The Jet Trims are real nice, I was sold on an Mline for my XP but ended up getting a clean OEM wrapped 99 SPX seat instead.

The hx is harder to do because the front corners are very flexible and then the rest of the base for the hx is a really hard plastic. I too use the harbor freight nailer and I buy ss staples from Home depot.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Currently I am leaning to M-Line.

This is a sample seat they have and I am quite fond of it. I would replace the red with yellow however.

Here is a mock up of the color layout I did in power point.

What do you think? I was thinking of something medium slip like for the top surface, say black CF, and then standard marine vinyl on the back (black) and sides (yellow)

Finally this is a mock up of the final look of the ski when I am done. Credit to PWCGraphics.com for the graphic on the top, I used it as a guideline to make the one on the bottom using paint and power point.

My brother had an mline on his 99...its a very nice seat cover but only lasted about 6 years, where as my JT seat that was older still looked new.

If you plan to keep it a long time spend the extra $$ and go JT.

Ive read that the black tip is on the thin side...Ill be installing one for a customer's ski next week.

Hydro Turf seat cover is another option you have as well check this out: http://goo.gl/56QSc

And you get 15% off with coupon code HYDRO15

Oh, thats another option I didn't know about. Thanks,

I guess I am between the hydro-turf and the m-line.

I think I like the style of the m-line a bit better, however pwcmuscle is a trusted vendor.

Can anyone offer any advice to sway me one way or the other, or show me pics of a hydroturf on a yellow XP?

Here is a video of the guys over at jetskidetailing.com installing a hydro turf seat cover on a XP

Here's an image of a yellow seat.. All the colors are fully customizable with HT covers as well.
