Rumor is SEA-DOO is as fed up as we are with $16,000 ski's that are 950 lbs and larger than some boats... (Seems no one wants to buy them or fix them, or etc).... and who can blame them when a 20' jet boat is HALF the price.

so... here's a 800cc that pushes 155HP

that happens to be made by them...

SIGN ME UP.

make a 2013 'XP' thats under 600 lbs and is a TRUE 2-seater, drop this in... GO.

I will wait in the parking lot, cash in hand. You hear me SEA-DOO?!

Well I hate to say I told you so (well maybe not), but back last year under the thread "What would you like to see in the next SeaDoo" I made the comment bring back the 2-stroke. I also made the comment that BRP had the technology with Johnson/Evinrude E-Tec engines.
It's good to see they have applied the technology to SkiDoo's, while we don't have much use for SkiDoo's where I live, I'm hoping that it won't be long until they apply the same technology to SeaDoo's. This is great news, now I won't have to buy a Kawasaki 4-stroke.

I love the smell of 2-stroke in the morning.

Wonder how hard it would be to get the MPEM, engine, and guages from the snow mobile, then just bolt them in the hull... is the snow mobile engine liquid cooled?

155 HP 800cc XP.... ;) ;) i'll take that challenge! first i need a blown engine XP...

Snowmobile and Jetski motors are two VERY different animals. Seadoo has the engineers to make it happen though.

I talked with a LOT of SD reps at the World Finals and if there is anything to this rumor they didnt say anything. They wanted to know what I thought on the '12 and said very few people rode it as hard as I did in the 4'+ chop. I told him it was fun, def and imporovment over last years model...but its no X-4.

All I know is when I rode the 2012 in 4' chop I could barely get the pump out of the water. The only way to get one of those pigs in the air is a ocean wave.

The 2 strokers here I think actually like when the pump gets unhooked....sliding it, jumping it, spinning it...

That would be cool if they brought it back to pwc's/boats! It really comes as no real surprise to me though. They (BRP) have a kick ass patented technology in the exhaust rave valve system. If I ran the R&D group their I would have a tough time just scrappin' it, hopefully the emissions keep the greenies happy. After whatchin that vid ... I might actually get myself a new sled this year!!

Those E-tec sleds are the absolute chit!!! I have an old Pro-x 800 and when we got to the gas station I needed $22 worth...buddy with the etec 800 needed $6!!!

It would be very nice to have 2 stokes back. BUT....

1) That is no longer a simple, inexpensive engine. SO... I wouldn't hold my breath about a cheap ski coming to life.

2) I know the boat engines are still getting some 2-strokes... but I'm not sure how the EPA would feel with the recreational use of 2-strokes in a PWC again. If they do get them to come out... they will have to burn TC-w3 oil to protect the fish.

Don't get me wrong... I would love to buy a new ski again... but the new Di system adds so much to the price, and complexity, that it still wouldn't be very friendly to the home mechanic.

Oh... and Carguy89... Yes... they all do weigh 900 Lbs these days.

812 Lbs Dry + 15 gal fuel @ 7 Lbs per + gal of oil at @ 6 Lbs + 15 Lbs of coolant = 938 Lbs without a passenger, or any extra gear stowed.

even if not 'cheap' I'd still think it would be cheaper than the current offerings, while reducing weight... 800cc has to weigh a LOT less than 1,500cc...

Agreed. There will be a significant weight reduction. And, since they are still compact, we could see the reemergence of an "X4" type hull. The only thing with that is... most people are kind of lazy, and they enjoy they bigger hulls.

I guess I should add one thing. 2 strokes in PWC never really died. You can still get a Yamaha superjet, or Kawi SX-R with a 2cyl, 2-stroke.

yea?

then why did sea-doo abandon them?
I like the light weight, nimble ski...

The problem is... even if I justify a $16,000 ski... it's just not that pretty, i don't want a 3 seater, and I don't want a $4,000 engine rebuild when the thing blows up!

anyway; I do hope to see them produce a ski I'd actually like to purchase... because none of the new models really impress or thrill me...

I'm scoping the 800E E-tec engine on BRP parts web site. it looks JUST like the 951, it's water cooled, even pull start... how great would that be on a jet ski?! (and electric start)

420079753 is the new short block #, but I can't find a price... not to mention the 200 other parts you'd need... and the MPEM (or whatever it's called now)

it doesn't look signifigantly more complicated than the 951... so it uses injectors instead of carbs, and the oil pump is electric vs on the magneto...

and the RAVEs seem to be electric vs pressure driven

even the freaking pipe looks sea-doo... (BRP duh)

anyone willing to call a dealer and just get a quote for an engine?!

155 HP :)

Dealers haven't got pricing on the entire assembly yet. Just tried my source, but from the dealer there is a $1899.00 crankshaft and pistons rebuild kit. That was about the only thing ... other than the $714 a piece fuel injectors ... LoL

Edit, just got a call back. Now these are CDN prices, but you can get a shortblock from BRP for $4943.99 again this is CDN and Mfg/Dealer pricing.

Why couldnt they convert a 450 MX motor?? Very small, powerful, high rev...take the gearbox off and that thing is TINY!!.

Its going to be very hard to keep up with the low emissions in the next few years. I know for a fact that the 2012 outboard engines and I/0 now have to have catalytic converters put on them. Although the two stroke technology is very good,i dont see them getting much reliability with a cat on them. Too easy to plug up and very expensive to replace. It might be worth holding on to your old skis for now. I really dont like the idea of an 8 grand engine rebuild either. I'd be more enclined to buy another older ski for half that!
