Hi, just wanted to get general thoughts on an 01 gs. Its in pretty nice shape for its age and recently had the carb rebuilt. Just curious as what to look out for and such. Also a couple of dumb questions.

1. What should i use to clean it with?
2. I live in Pa and ive only ever noticed boats around with what i call mailbox lettering, is there some kind of rule against using the cooler scripted looking letters?
3. Any maintenance tips will be appreciated as this is my first ski.
4. Any efficient tips for breaking the ice in lake erie would be appreciated as mother nature is holding out this year and i want to go ride

Ps, ive been reading this forum for a while and it sounds like there are some smart guys here

1. clean it like a car. We have found castrol super clean to work the best for grimey bilges.

2. You can check you states laws, but in MN the only rule is they need to be 3" and contrast from the background color.

3. Read up..both here and download the owners manual from seadoo's website.

4. I hear drinking lots of beer helps.

Welcome the best Seadoo site on the planet!

Well, looks like the weather is getting somewhat closer, temperature was 70 today but ice still in the water. In regards to the numbers again, does anybody have any suggestions for how to remove the old ones? Hair dryer? Some sort of chemical? Chic with crazy sharp finger nails? In looking around the area and in talking to some locals the slightly nicer letters appear to be ok. There are some on ebay that look decent enough for around 15 bucks. And you were right about the contrasting with the boat part.

I also need to get some new mats as the old ones have come off. Should i blow the 90 bucks on a hydro turf set or is there something that works just as well for a little cheaper out there?

I have downloaded the manual and read through it and I have one unanswered question. The fellow i bought it from said that he thought one of the keys was a learning key and the other was the regular one. The manual doesn't say anything about that anywhere that i can see. The keys both have the same color lanyard, the only difference being that one says DESS on it and the other does not. Any thoughts?

Thanks.... And sorry for all the stupid noob questions

Hair dryer or heat gun on the decals, if they are brittle and dont peel back nice a razor blade at the right angle does the trick. To get the sticky stuff off you can use a adhesive remover like goo-be-gone or 3M adhesive remover. http://www.walmart.com/ip/3M-12-oz-Adhesive-Remover/17056835.

Hydro turf or blacktip are your best options for mats

There are no learner keys on carbed skis.

Did you go through your fuel system yet, change the grey fuel lines (if they are still there) and clean the fuel selector and carbs?

The only stupid question around here are the ones that didn't get asked.

.

I'm pretty sure learning keys only work on DIs and 4 strokes.

Hair dryer will be a good start. Their is a product called Goo be Gone or something like that. It is made for the removal of the sticker glue. Winded and it lighter fluid will bread it down as well. Then just wash the hull very well.

Ok, I will give the hair dryer route a whirl. According the previous owner the carbs were rebuilt last summer. Looks as if the fuel lines have already been changed as well. I'm double checking with the guy i bought it from the see which oil he used as well to make sure there is no issue there as I have read about that on here. Good to know about the key as relates to the carbs, I suppose if I had thought about that in my head I would have realized that it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Now if only I could get the wife excited about this as she thinks it is kinda stupid.

Once she rides it she will be hooked, don't worry. Be ready to buy a second one for her, it's coming

Ha ha, I shall call that wishful thinking. Worst case is I have 3 kids that are looking forward to riding around with me. Would have been nice to find a 3 seater instead of a 2 but I think I got a pretty good deal. I'll have to post some pictures at some point. The exterior looks brand new sans a few scratches. The motor and everything looks pretty decent as well, but I figure if I post a couple of pictures some of you guys seem to really know your stuff and will be able to tell me if there something obvious that I am missing as I am free to admit that I don't know everything that I probably should about these things.

What color are they, no matter what the PO says, if they are grey and say Tempo.....change them. If they are black your good to go.

They are gray however i dont see the word tempo on them.

Here are a couple more pics if there is something else that looks to need replacing please let me know

Those look like tempo to me but not 100% sure. I don't see the OEM clamps so I know they have been off at one time

Heres the outside... and yes i know the bilge needs a cleaning... what is the difference between these grey lines and the bad grey lines

They look like the bad tempo ones but I can't say for 100%. Just look over all of the lines, you should see the word tempo somewhere

The writing on them says "type b1" and then i cant really read the rest while upside down on my head. If they are bad what else do i have to change besides the lines? Im making a list of stuff i want to get from the watercraft superstore that soebody shared above

Bad vs not bad. Equates to a good engine or blown up engine. Reason,, grey tempo lines restrict fuel which in turns restricts oil. Basically the engine runs lean and destroys itself.

Understood, but let me rephrase a slightly different way. How could i visually or physically tell the difference outside of the word tempo.

That green goo is an engine killer. Pull one off a carb hook up. They react with brass and ethanol or something and create this nasty goo

I dont know if they all said tempo on them or not, either way I would change them out to be sure. There is what looks to be an OEM Oetiker clamp on there.
Most people dont reuse them because there a PITA and expensive, which leads me to believe they have not been changed. How you can tell most time is look where the hoses connect to the carbs, if there is any type of green goo where the hose slips onto the nipples of the carb..............definitely Tempo.

Here is a start.

Fuel System
-20 of 1/4" fuel line BLACK (any auto store, does not have to be fuel injection line)
-25 ish SS hose clamps to fit. Unless the ones in there are in good shape
-Fuel selector switch. Or you can try cleaning the old one, but there not that much $
I would suggest at minimum to change the filter in the carb and clean them. They were just rebuilt so the other parts in there should be fine.

If your fuel gauge is not functioning this would be a good time to fix it, usually a cheap or free fix.

Oil system
If the lines are old and still have the white paint on them, change them as well.
-4 ish ft of 3/32 tygon oil line and some good quality small zip ties
-oil filter 275 000 051
check the condition of your other oil lines and clamps, the bigger ones dont breakdown as much as those small ones.
