Hey folks. I am brand new to this sort of PWC. I was driving down the road last week and saw the attached SeaDoo for sale for $175 (with trailer). Seemed fair enough since I can get that out of the trailer if this ends up being a lost cause.
I am not new to getting my hands dirty. Just restored a 66 Mustang and do boat work as well. The fella I bought it from handed me a folder of receipts, etc and on the cover someone wrote 1990 SeaDoo SP 580 (587). Inside is a bunch of printed out schematics from 2006.
Bought a battery, charged it and popped it in. It turns over. There is a start/stop button near the left handle - didn't push that one. There is also a button that is located on the "dash" under the handlebars. That one turned it over. Pulled both plugs, checked for fire and there is none. I noticed the flame arrestor cover is missing but the metal mesh breather looking cover is there on the carb. There is a (guess it's a fuel pump) mounted on the inside that is not hooked up. The rubber connector to the air box is missing. I am guessing the carb is not stock and has its own pump because there are black hoses leading to it.
I have the lanyard and kill switch in a plastic bag. There's a hole on the yellow plastic handlebar cover that looks about the same size so I am guess either it mounts in there or that cover is from a different SeaDoo and the kill switch actually mounts below.
There's a choke that pulls straight up below as well next to the start button that works. The choke higher up that pulls out towards the driver does not. The throttle works.
I think I may have a Frankenstein'd SeaDoo? Will post more pics and maybe a video after work today.
Thanks for reading...I am glad to be here and hope to get this thing going with some assistance.
