Did you know that if it only cost ..say its $3 bucks to ship something & they charge you $15, whatever is left goes to them, cheap profits i call it. anyhow just look at your shipping charges before it ships out.

You sure you got the right ones? Last time I looked they had them for like 4 bucks each.

I agree. I ordered a starter pd $11 shipping, ordered a new PWC cover pd $10 shipping, ordered a fuel filter, bolt, glove box lock (which weighed the least) and still pd over $10 shipping. I bet if we could get it shipped COD it would be less charges.

seems to be common practice among the suppliers, I ordered 2 neoprene seals, a couple carb gaskets and some o-rings from parker yamaha a couple weeks ago, shipping and handling was $16.50. Everything could have fit in a brown envelope. It arrived in a box about 10"x8"x18" filled with packing bags full of air to take up all the empty space.

They def get you on the shipping. I'm working with them right now because they stuck me with a $400 dollar bill, saying one of the core cylinders I sent them was totalled. I wish I had taken pix because I think they must have confused mine with someone elses. I'd like to know, with all the business they do, how they keep them seperated so they know they have the right one.

But, I let this be a learning curve for me. Out of the last 5 years I've worked with them, this is my first core charge. So, now I'm going to take pix of every core I send back to them, inspecting it inside and out before it goes. That way, I'l have a bit more to look at before I agree to send them money. I sent them another cylinder last Monday, they signed for it on Wednesday and here it is, Saturday. So, by Monday, it'll be 5 days. I hope they can get to it by then. Seems they were quick to charge my card the day they received the cylnders, but slow about returning it. I guess, the longer my money sits in their account, the more interest they make.

The funny part of the whole thing is, it wasn't my cylinder. It was for a guy I'm doing the work for. I've told him but we are going to wait to see what SBT does before doing anything else.

Take pix, inspect every core before you send it back. Be sure your stuff is in good order. If it's painted and you see a bulge, chip away the paint and look for cracks.

I've always had a

ouch, sure hope you get that worked out with them

Don't just take pics. Take pics of you using a mic on the and the mice reading. I think that would be a good idea. I have yet to have a core problem on anything. But awhile ago some one told me next time I turn in any core to do some measurements on camera or even video. Due to the way every company is looking for a way to cut corners.

I install and maintain postal software systems for companies. I have to agree, on most companies when I setup the system first thing they ask is how can they add a surcharge to bill there customers. Half of the time it is $10.00 or $5.00. The rest of the time it's a percentage of the original bill. Most companies will drop there prices on stuff they sell alot and bump up the postage.

Some companies don't want to get shorted so they have a minimum shipping price, or they go by price. If a shop charges too much for shipping... I stop buying small parts from them.

BUT.... since I am a shop.... A few things to remember...

1) shipping is getting expensive because of fuel.
2) If the shop has to pay someone to figure out what every box will cost... that will just add to the price of the parts.
3) Most people want a final price before they hang up the phone. (or finalize an web order) Because of that, the shop doesn't want to loose $$$, and they over charge.

I know on my own web site... I charge $6.50 shipping on an order under $100, and $10.50 on anything over. Most of the time I loose a few $$$ because of insurance costs. BUT... if I charged more... I may loose a sale.

I will agree that $16 is a bit over priced... but the last time I got small parts from SBT... it was $12. (reasonable for what I ordered) But... then again... I get most of my small parts (like seals) from Parts pit stop. (They are only $6 there)

I filled in for a vacationing parts manager and worked shipping. Every order you fill takes about 10-15 minutes because of finding the part, packing (handling) and ordering the shipment (shipping online through fed-ex or UPS). UPS and fed-ex are not cheap.

Some bean counter somewhere figured that fifteen minutes of a parts personnel's labor is three dollars and seventy five cents. So if the shop makes 2 dollars profit on small parts, they just lost money because it cost them more in labor to ship it. With that frame of mind, they decided all orders under X dollar amount, have a $10.00 minimum shipping charge.

With SBT's volume, I'm sure they have a dedicated parts department. They are just passing on the overhead to you. It happens almost everywhere.

I don't want to be callous here, but if you don't like the shipping price order from another company. You know the shipping price before you finalize the order. Parts are available from several different sources.
