I've never wet sanded anything. Can you give me a little info on the process

yes, same here.

1500 grit wet sanding and elbow grease works wonders, It has rarely let me down.

Spim do you ever start with anything lower? Cuz right now on the 97spx I'm doing I had to start with 220 to get the yellowish haze to go away from the old decals. Then I moved my way up: I think it went 220, 320, 500, 7 or 800 something, 1000, then 1200, then buff, then wax.

yes, i've started lower before, 1000, 1200, 1500, but most of the time, unless it was REALLY bad, 1500 worked just fine. Most of the times in the past I stuck with 1500 just because that's all I had and @ $5 for 6 sheets, ace hardware was killing me !, but then I went amazon happy one day and bought a bunch of different grits in half sheets, so I have more flexibility. (fwiw, the amazon stuff appears to be cheap chinese crap, doesn't hold up very well vs the ace hardware stuff) it still works, but I go through sheets pretty fast.

I'm using harbor freight stuff and i go through that fairly quick as well but it's real cheap.

Since I have posted pictures of SeaDoo's that I currently own, here's a few pictures of SeaDoo's and other watercraft I have owned in the past.

I used a "fine" grit foam block (from Home Depot) on my HX to really get the yellowing gone, then worked up, check my HX thread. Personally I wouldn't piss my money away on the cheap crap, go to your local auto body shop. Buy Norton or the like it will last much longer. You can buy 50 1/2 sheets for like $30 or 50 full 9X11 sheets for $52ish. Also ask them if the have older inventory that they will sell discounted. I bought a box of 9X11 800 wet (50 sheets) for like $12 iirc. Also ask if the have odd grits like X20 or X80 or something like that that they will sell cheap, the X would be a 1,2,3,4,5,6, etc..... all older odd ball crap. Most bodyshops now a days follow a sanding "system" and the suppliers are stuck holding the grits that guys never use anymore and can be bought cheap. My place always has a table full for the cost conscience guys like myself. If you go to the hardware store you'll get smoked, especially on a white hull. I end up sanding interior trim and casings in the house with it to smooth out the top coat.

Here's what I started with on my HX after the 400 wouldn't touch the white. White is the hardest color, you're in for the long haul for sure!

Minnetonka4me Dang do i see atleast two 1995 Seadoo XP800's in your group?

Yup and technically my black one is a 95 hull too. My buddy with the pair of them has his up for sale...All original, NEW OEM replacement seat cover, all the normal stuff taken care of. The other one he tore the decals off b/c they were faded.

Heres another shot at our "sortie" get together we do every year...

Is this really you guys? I see no one drinking beer or any beer for that matter.....:o:o

During the official event its kind of frowned upon. Plus...it was about 11am. Believe me the group knows how to drink once the sun goes down!

And for anyone reading this...We put on a freeride in Wisconsin Dells May 29-june 1st, and my event in Lake City, MN Aug 22rd-24th. All are welcome, all rides are welcome, all abilities and all disciplines welcome! IF you need any more info just hit me up.

The most awesome 97SPX ever!
