Hopefully someone can help me out..... I'm having a bit of a situation with my 2001 GTX DI. So here goes......

At first, it would beep and was starting for about ten seconds and blowing the 15amp fuse in the MPEM with a bit of smoke coming from the injector. Everyone told me it was the rectifier. So I put in a rectifier as this is common to go on these and I put in a new battery.

Now, when I put in either of my three landyards I get the gauge/dash display and I hear the fuel pump come on, but I get no beeps and no cranking. It does not beep after hitting the start/stop button five times either. The battery reads 12.51 volts and the solenoid reads 12.51 volts. It does crank when I jump the solenoid.

Some say it's the solenoid and others say it's the post. This is a clean/spotless, lubed, non-corrosive ski with 75 hours. Does anyone have any advice???? Greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like you need a new MPEM. Remove the 15A fuse and check for ground on the load side of the fuse holder. If it's grounded, you'll have to replace the MPEM.

I wouldn't worry too much about the beeper, they fail constantly no matter how clean the machine is. does it ever beep anymore? you should check to see if it's getting voltage at the connector under the small bin in the hood, it's a purple and tan 2 wire connector, I think.

it sounds like a bad solenoid and it is a simple check, just make sure you are getting 12v to the plug of the solenoid when you hit the start button. If so, and you don't get it to click, then it's bad. If not, check your switch by pressing the start with the lanyard off, do the gauges come on? Can you get it to start by jumping the solenoid?

I don't think it's the post because generally when they fail they don't do anything when the lanyard is put on, the fuel pump coming on and the gauges tells me it's communicating to some degree.

still could be an MPEM problem, try chester's test as well.

2001 GTX DI - Solenoid, MPEM, Post????

Thanks guys!

So far.......

- the dash and fuel pump turns on when I hit the start/stop switch
- no beeps at all with or without lanyard
- the engine cranks when I jump the solenoid, but it doesn't start

I'll run a few tests this weekend and see what else I can find....

Got it Started but still has a problem

Ok, so I put in a new 15 amp fuse in the MPEM and it finally gave me two beeps when I plugged in the landyard. But the fuse blew before I even got to crank it and I saw smoke coming from the front injector harness. Then, I unplugged the harness off that injector, put in a new 15 amp fuse, and it started right up. It ran rough because it was running off one injector, but it did start. Then, I cleaned the harness and terminals of the smoking injector and plugged that in also and it ran great for about 30 seconds. I shut if off so I could run the hose on it, but then it wouldn't start when I tried it with the hose. It turns over strong and it sounds like its about to start almost like it's lacking gas.

Bad injector? Bad fuel? I'm getting close.....can someone help?

Thanks!

You've already found it!

You've already found the problem. The harness for that front injector is shorted out somewhere. If you saw smoke from the harness, this is a sure sign that you've found the electrical short. That short is why the fuse is popping. You'll need to expose all the wires at that part of the harness, back a foot or so and see if you can find melted wires. Then, you'll need to purchase an electrical repair kit (you can find them at Lowe's or maybe Walmart) and spice these wires back together. If you don't have enough wire to make the spice, then you need more wire. Make sure if the wire is of gage 12, you replace it with a gage 12 wire.

Harness or Injector?

After taking a closer look and popping a few more fuses, it seems that the smoke is coming out of the small pinhole from the side of the injector. Should I be replacing the injector?

Here is a rule of thumb...if something has lets the smoke out...it's fried. It's possible that the bad harness caused more problems. It Could have cause the injector to cook too. If you keep putting in fuses, it's not gonna get fixed, just more problems if the faulty wire keeps making contact. Start with the wire harness as Seadoosnipe described, and go from there to the injector.

Fixed It

I took the injectors out and noticed one of them had a burnt spot on the side pinhole. Riva lists them at $250 each and sells them for $200 with a discount. I bought a used one on ebay for $60 shipped. I dropped it in today and it started right up like a champ. Although it seemed like it revved a little high. Is an idle at 1430 rpms normal.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I know this is an old thread but I am happy I found it. I have a 2002 GTX DI with the Identical problem at the same injector. My question to you is did the injector replacement totaly fix the problem or did you have to replace the harness too?

Thanks in advance
