has anyone used ses for engines?

Stay away from East Coast Cycles. I had two engines there and was told "a couple weeks" One year later I got them back. One BS story after the other. I will say after I got them back they seem to run ok. But they used used bolts from other machines......Bad news all the way around ..I would stay away from ECC...but that is just my two cents.

I must join and respond to these lies to save you guys. Tom "aka" ses works as an employee or has worked for east coast cycles. I am not sure if he still does since getting ripped off I left the sport and parked my ski. He rips people off on the side, His turn around is 3 months, not 3 weeks. I took my rebuild from tom to derrick in cherry hill "another loser" That I trusted because of his freindship and reputation with the big BSer in dania beach fl. for the install and it would not start. 120 on one side he said, I said you know what ,You fix it thinking it would be right, Well 3 more months, I was ripped off again for $650 All he did was swap the jugs around which we all know you should not do. Now I have 140 on each side that cost me 1,400 hundred. I should have 155. I now need jugs and quality MATCHING pistons for a 580 if anybody can point me in the right direction, I am scared to run this thing.

No one at this shop was ever an employee of east coast cycle we where here when they opened there engine biz and where here now that there closed. I will how ever offer you this. just to show that we are not the same as everyone else that you have dealt with, send us the engine we will fix it what ever was done wrong by THEM (E.C.C.). set the compression to what ever you want, just let us know. and if you aren't 100% happy. don't pay us. but I will ask that you be honest with your experiences on this forum afterwords.

I believe you are the person I just got off the phone with. I asked about me bringing my engine to you vs. shipping. (engine currently has a hot rod crank in it, but I have a OEM core as well). (i'd like to keep the HR one)

I'm a 2 hour drive away, so like I said it would be cheaper for me to just come out some weeknight or weekend if you are around.

I'd be more at ease if the warranty were posted on the web site. $1100 is a fair price compared to your competitors, but it's not a chunk of change I can really afford to lose.

Thank you however (if it's you) for spending the time on the phone answering my questions.

When I pull the engine if I don't feel I can rebuild it myself it's coming to you :)

I guess my next question; if it fails under warranty; does the engine go to the top of your list?

If i'm out 3 weeks in the summer w/out an engine, that's no good to me either...

Im not sure if you looked around the whole web site the warranty is at the top of the page, on the standard engine page and the top.and the top of the premium engine page, the standard engines come with a 1 year warranty and its a parts fail warranty, it covers manufacture defects and workmanship mistakes, its not a no fault, Our premium comes with a 2 year no fault no questions asked warranty, if you want to send it back for any reason just send it, we pay return shipping on all warranty 1 year or 2 year. we do not pay for any labor on your end. give me a call any time you want come over,

Looking at the website, it looks like a good deal. 899 for a premium 787 with the 2 year no fault warranty is a great deal.

I will take you up on that if you're name is not tom, Never worked at smithmarine? It would be stupid for me to do business with either of them again. I told both guys I wanted factory specs, To me that is oem pistons with oem clearances. The engine is in the ski, Can you do just the top end?

My Name is not Tom but The owners name is we all take turns here and other forums no we never worked any where other then here ever! The Tom that works at east coast still works there he goes by Tommy. We don't do top ends we don't do 580's anymore but we can make an exception if you want the whole engine done, if your interested give us a call.

I plan to remove my engine this week or next, and will call you to arrange a drop off time.

I assume the warranty starts when I get an engine in my hands, not when I drop mine off, correct? (I just like everything spelled out)...

page: "http://www.seadooengineshop.com/business-hours/"

has "You can reach us at (267) 432-3169 . or leave a messege anytime."

on it

Should be

"You can reach us at (267) 432-3169, leave a message anytime."

cool i will try and do that too, Hey i seen sbt has the alignment tool for 150 bucks to should i just get that to do the alignmet? and how hard is it really i left all the motor mounts on the ski and there really isnt any shims or anything and they look great how would you even adjust it anyways

I'm a newbee and recently aligned my 99 gs after an engine swap. I would advise you to get the tool or try to rent one( where i don't know) as you could seriously screw up your driveline bearings in the pump. It's not rocket science to do it . I used a couple of feeler guage sets to figure out exactly which shims i needed and added them as needed to get the alignment shaft to slide in with no interference. Straight shot! Now I don't have to worry about eating a bearing and possibly tearing a hole in the bottom of my bike.
Cheers & Good Luck.

PS-- If you don't have the service manual go ahead and download it from this forum under manuals. The alignment procedure should be in there.
PPS---The mounts can sag over time and this will cause mis alignment..

Hey BRP tech any chance you can offer forum members a discount on your rebuilds? I see that shortblocks-r-us offers greenhulk.com members a 10% discount. Anyway you can pay extra for another year of warranty? Possibly a standard engine with a 2 year warranty?

this is the 2 year page:
http://seadooengineshop.com/seadoo-engines-premium/

how does shipping work? I was planning on dropping it off and picking it up, unless return shipping is in the price...

One of the bolts holding the engine mount, the head snapped off.. can you guys drill / retap that? is that extra? thanks.

Do you test engines before you rebuild them? Mine has a 'fresh' rebuild, but inconsistent performance... do I just have you rebuild it or can something simple we can try first?

Thanks! My engine is out of the ski now, and I removed everything but the PTO and flywheel since I do not have the tools to do that... (also means I can't remove the starter gear).

Have you seen there prices! wow, they have a lot of room to discount, even with a 10% discount there higher than us. for the differences in price of the warranty you could just get the premium engine that comes with 2 year warranty.

Dropped off engine Friday, we shall see!

It was a 2 hour turnpike drive for me, but after 4 hours in the car with a gas engine smell and 17 MPG, and getting a bit lost due to construction, and turn pike tolls... it may have been less $ / stress for me to just ship the thing!

Shipped my engine UPS, better than a five hour drive each way from central NY. I have talked to Tom two different times about the rebuild process and was impressed enough to give him a try. I have two buddies waiting for results of this rebuild; guess I'm the test case. Sabr; Let me know your results, compare notes about the outcome if you please.

are you planning on getting yours back in the water before winter hits? it's 68 and raining here, and I winterized my other ski, so I don't have someone to tow me in if something happens... so I'm as yet not sure if I plan to run it in the water till spring...

Sabr; Probably going to wait until next year, going to rebuild carbs and need to secure an alingment tool for the engine installation. I have already pulled both the oil and gas tanks for cleaning and have replaced all the old fuel lines. We just winterized the pontoon yeasterday and covered it up, winter can come on pretty quick in this part of the world. I winterized the '96 XP a few days ago, no fun running alone, cleaned both tanks in that one too. Built a craddle to put the '95 on for repair work and liked it so much that I built one for the '96 for winter storage. Put it on casters and now can place it in a corner of my garage, takes up a lot less space than the trailer did. Let me know when you get your engine.

GUYS!!!! STAY AWAY FROM SES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOM AND OR WHOEVER HE CLAIMS TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I joined here to post and try to save yall the headache i had dealing with these guys. I sent them an engine back in april thinking i was getting a good deal with some good guys that answered all my questions over the phone, but, here it is now... the end of sept, i was promised the 3 week total time, now i've missed the entire summer of boating and i still dont have all my parts. Heck i didnt get my engine back until a few weeks ago... and thats ONLY because i called and harassed him. When they sent my engine back they didnt send the power valvesor anything with it! No big dea right? Well after claiming he packed them and i should look again, he claims to have found them and will ship them. When? heck I dunno. I have offered to pay the shipping myself but no word back from him. So here i am, I cant test the engine he repaired, and I cant sell my boat. I feel like he swept me under the rug when he got his money. Please guys, do yourself a favor and don't fall for this scam. Anyone that wants to know details about this please feel free to email me at
d.jackson79x@yahoo.com i will show you emails or anything you want. I can't even dispute the claim through paypal because it passed the 45 day limit... so BEWARE!! Save yourself alot of time and heartache.... go with a reputable shop!!!!!!!!!!
