I'd never do it that way. Way too risky. At a minimum you should be having your paperwork (title/reg and bill of sale) notarized. CYA--cover your azz.

I sold one of my snowmobiles to some kids from the Poconos they came on a Sunday with cash and were all excited to go riding I called the local tag place and the woman met me there because she will do some appointments if you call in advance the two kids were all mad that I made them transfer the paperwork into their name . I did not want them ripping around on my sled across Private property causing havoc and getting me blamed for it since my registration numbers were on there. Cover your A** !!! Never forget that

not to offend, and sorry don't mean to laff @ your post, but LOL at a Sunday Title Transfer... heck in my county a Wednesday title transfer means a 20 minute drive each way sitting in line for 45 minutes to an hour, and that's assuming you do the deal before 4:30 in teh afternoon, NOTHING is happening after 4:30, ever. Sunday ? not a chance. And I know this sounds silly, but when your local CL has maybe 5 new ski's up for sale every day, if you turn into a stickler for paperwork, you might never sell anything ! Most of the time the buyer is happy that I even have the title (you'd be surprised how many sellers dont) and there thrilled when I have a registration on the trailer, since a LOT of Florida users just move their tag from trailer to trailer over the years and never think about it.

you guys are much more careful than I am, not to say that I don't care, but its just not practical, I do see your point, but where the hell will I dig up a notary at 8pm in my living room ? As far as I'm concerned if I have a bill of sale for the ski, (with the person's name on the paper assuming he gave me the right name), and half the time I can't read their signature, I sign the title and 90% of the time they sign in front of me, after that my primary concern is are the $100's real, and I use a counterfeit pen, best I can do on a practical basis.

heck, this will drive you nuts... ,when I sold my lexus, the guy got dropped off by a friend, with a plate in hand, and $100's in his wallet, I handed him the key's (i was at work) and told him to take a test ride and come back in 10 minutes, (i went back inside, i had customers waiting) , he returned and paid me, I loaned him a phillips screwdriver to put the plates on, and vroom vroom he drove off with a signed title all I had was a bill of sale.

maybe i'm trusting or stupid, or both lol, but i'm just happy to sell the item and move on.

now that I recall when i bought SDB's ski for him, i bought it out of a parking lot on the highway halfway between the seller house and mine, I left it at a mechanics for a week, bought parts, test rode it, then gave it to SDB two weeks later, ALL with an open title, no registration on the trailer and a bill of sale that was hand written on notebook paper.

the last 98 GTXL I bought for parts, I looked at it in the back yard of a vacant house, drove to the lady's new house, paid her $450, got an open title, no trailer paperwork at all, then drove back to the vacant house and picked it up. made me think I should have just drove away with it on the first stop lol.

Tim, the scam up here and probably everywhere is to be dropped off at the sellers, be asked to test drive it. (you should go too), If you don't go then the the 2 buddys meet somewhere and keep your car/bike/truck. I've asked for the drivers license and make a copy& leave it at the house or with wife and lock the house, then go for test ride.

When you bought my ski the only hitch I had to get it registered was the state of Fl wouldn't accept a bill of sale for the trailer since the 2 PO never had it registered. They gave a "perjury note" to be signed by the last owner. Once I had that & a weight slip, I had no problem with the trailer.

PS....Tim, I also posted the Peace River ride on the JSJ facebook page.

if he had stolen it he would have done me a favor, i would have received more from the insurance carrier anyway, it had a questionable transmission, and i was selling it $1500 under blue book + I would have received the tax credit as well, it would have been wonderful !

ya, i know your trailer was a pain, but like I said, in FL, sooo many people don't even bother with trailer paperwork. i'm used to it down here I just know that half the time I'm going to have to get it weighed and do paperwork if I want to make it legal, or just throw the tag from my other trailer and not even think about it.

For me to title a vehicle that is CURRENTLY titled in PA you can go about it two ways.

1. Have the title signed and notarized, then go to a fast tags and transfer the title. BUT, I think you need to have a photocopy of the owners drivers license and a bill of sale. And some places will laugh at you and turn you away. And I don't know anyone that would let you do this, unless it's family.

2.BOTH parties arrive at the fast tags place with a title, initiate the paperwork, both parties sign the title, both parties have their driver licenses photocopied(to prove ownership), the title get notarized, paperwork is processed, pink slip is issued on the spot, title will arrive in the mail. Registration (cars and trucks) will be issued immediately (if the facility is authorized to do online issuance with the DMV). It's pretty cut and dry and takes like 15 minutes. I could blink and pass 1/2 a dozen fast tags places. I have never waited in line more than 5 minutes.

Up here we know how it works(PA's procedures) and the deals are finalized around those rules, it's the way it is and I don't mind it since it is in both parties best interest.

This is why a flip up here is tough, guys don't let stuff go without transferring. Now, a ski coming from Jersey, all I need is a registration card and a bill of sale and I can take the ski. I can also walk into my fast tags with both said documents and register it on the spot and get temporary reg stickers and transfer it into my name without the owner.

Here's the kicker, the costs. To get a Ski in my name is $81 PLUS I need to pay sales tax on the purchase price @ 6%. The a trailer is $98 to get it in my name WITH a license plate (less if you have your own from an old trailer) PLUS 6% again on the price of the trailer. So that is $180 on top of the price of the sale BEFORE TAXES. So the other day Crofoot posted an 89 SP on a single trailer for $300, he would have been $500+ into it before it was said and done. Now the ski would be a parts unit(to me), but those are hot selling parts, so I look at that as he would have paid $500 for an older single trailer--not worth as you can find a single for $275-$350 + $100 to put it in your name. The guy I bought my HX from was super cool, he let me take it with the title for a few weeks while I ponied up the cash for the "fees". It also pays that I know where the guy works and am in the often so I can't hide from the guy. This is a good reason I try and find my stuff in Jersey, so I'm not out the extra cash right away.

I'm right near the "A", you can see all the fast tags places(all those red dots), I'm tripping over them and the one I use isn't even listed and there are at least 3 more that I know of on the way to the one I use. So yeah, no lines here. Our snowbirds are clogging you guys up in the winter months, LOL.

And I assume Spim that for you to do vehicle transfer is a state run operation? Ours up here are independently owned--hence the fees probably being higher than yours, so the owner can get his cut. And some places will mug you.

wow... thats crazy...

ours is state/country run, and fee's are cheap, my 2006 GP1300 cost $121 for title/registration and $17 for the trailer. Renwals are $35 and 17. thats it...

and no notary business, just an illegible signature will work and the buyer is the only one that show's up.

obviously we're loosey goosey in comparison, but also keep in mind we had sooo many boats/trailers you'd be shocked. we have almost a million boats registered in FL. and probably 50% of the sales are dirt cheap since the boats are broken down, bad engines, etc. They don't bat an eye when I buy a ski with a $250 price tag including trailer.

not for sale, (well, everything is for a price right?) but I saw this last night at my mechanics.

pretty neat eh ? A Sea Skate, 717 factory pipe, hits low 50's, turn's on a dime, SEadoo motor, yamaha pump.

i'll take cheap fees and no notary, and no two person visits to the tag office any time if all i have to give up is Sunday title transfers :)

but i do agree.... that pa protects both parties much better, good for the people, bad for the lawyers, less people to sue.

If we buy a ski on saturday, we just go ride it sunday with a copy of the bill of sale in the storage bin. Figure out all the rest of the chit on Monday, they don't even penalize us until the bill of sale is 30 days old, and then its only $10.

however, we don't have access to amish fireplaces at a discount :(

I bought a Poppy cover off Ebay from the link on this site. Thank you though Coastie!

The guy with the 97XP text me today and said he has bills to pay and will cut it to me for $300. It comes on a single with flats but he says he will have it rolling for me Sat. I've got the engine for it so I'm gonna do like 68 and give this parabolic thing a try. Hopefully an engine is all it needs. Otherwise it gets the one day strip down and hull discard. That trailer would be an upgrade for a rusty one I have

Hey Lemont you big dummy, grab me the metal can of WD-40 on the tailgate. LOL

Oh my God, how do you guys stand it? All I need is the previous owner's registration and a bill of sale, period! I can register in 20 days or when my other tags come due and pay a whopping $10 late fee and trailers for watercraft never need registering. Oh, and no titles either. And I have never heard of anyone getting sued over damage that had a bill of sale. Hell I've never heard of anyone with any legal issues here doing it this way...maybe I don't know enough boat owners. I've bought cars with cash and had to have the title mailed to me, sold a camper and a car for cash and simply signed on the transfer line of the title. And the lines at our offices are ridiculous! Plan on burning half a day's pay standing in a line of 20 people to watch 2 clerks try to wade through the paperwork. But, on the other hand, I can renew through a website and our fees are cheaper than most states.

Matt you Got it Bad !!! I thought I was nuts with 9 skis. You are still buying and ALWAYS lookn LOL. You will surpass me soon. I have my 03 GTI almost done hoping to sell that soon ( end of season is almost here)

I have had more than 9 several times but I fix them and move them down the road. I don't polish them up pretty like a lot of guys do. I just fix the mechanical issues, service them and sell them quick on the cheap side for a water ready ski. For this to work it's gotta come cheap. $300 sure fits the mold.

I'm a little curious about the ride of the 97 also. I've seen those things since they first came out and never once climbed on one. They are pretty cool looking to some people.

I'm still a little to fond of the 95XP Spim got me for $150 to off it for a couple hundred profit. I want to find it a good home. I want to build it with a pipe and carbs but wonder if it would just sell for the same money?

From what Spim posted things are pretty easy on the Paperwork side for Jetskis and trailers in FLA . up here we have a long wait to get the paperwork through and you have to have the buyer with you in person at the tag (DMV) company so it's very difficult to flip here
Like xxx posted if we buy them out of state it is way easier to flip them

that would be my concern, the 95's are not in high demand, although I do agree with you they are very nice little ski's, especially if modded up a tad. And the 717's are so dam bulletproof, IMO they are an excellent choice for a low maintenance ski that can take abuse, neglect, and just keep on chugging along year after year. but these days its hard to get a return on your money with extra mods, unless you just happen to have them laying around and your having difficulty selling them separately, then my thoughts are to just leave it stock.

but if you have 717 performance items, (and the stock counterparts) my thought would be to make the attempt first to sell the performance parts in the marketplace. Put a nice fresh coat of paint on the stock engine, pipe, etc, which will separate your ski from the average 717 out there, as a seller, I can tell you first hand that 80% of the buyers appreciate a fresh coat of paint on the engine, and an hours worth of wet sanding on the hull more than they do a set of proks, or an aftermarket pipe etc... (ya its silly but true). the other 20% of the buyers are the ones that would be interested in the performance enhancements, but they are out numbered by the average CL shopper, by far. now my experience is a very small sample size so maybe its biased, but we've discussed this before, you'd be shocked at how many are sold with no compression test, no test ride, and only a quick "lookie here" inside the engine compartment. What they want is a ski that starts up and idles on the trailer, and isn't an eyesore, and they really really respond positively to a fresh coat of paint on all the metal inside.

So I get the hundos set aside as promised and even get off early. The guy sends a text like"sorry man I know it's wrong but a guy is coming to get it for $450 and I need the money". This is my $300 97XP deal I'm referring to. I don't need it but I hate being lied to and having my time wasted. When I give my word it's DONE regardless if I realize later that I could yield more an alternate way.

Craigslist
