I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that I believe that most of the people in this thread know that buying a FL ski without a title is basically buying it for parts only (or racing only or run on a private lake.)

I see so many clown craigslist sellers saying how easy it is for a buyer to get a title. If it were so easy, then why don't they get the title?

Spim, I'm not saying that your seller is a clown; he was upfront about not having good titles and didn't claim that getting a title was a piece of cake.

matt, glad your trip went well, too bad i didn't get a chance to see you during your drive up, I know you drove right by me from spims, but I didn't even try because I spent most of the day in tarpon springs and tampa with the family, we did one of those living social boat rentals, the weather was perfect, and managed to see 2 sets of these, i actually saw them at 2 different times, so maybe they are the same pair

i'm not gonna turn this into a creepy thread, but matt, you are very generous with us with your last pic :lurk:

yes, parts only is the name of the game if a ski has no title. granted for the right ski a person could jump thru some hoops, but its a pain and success is not guaranteed. however a 97 has a few "One off" parts that do hold some value, assuming the entry price is right. seller called me back and said he might have found the title, which raises the price and removes me as a potential buyer, for a ski like that i'm leaning towards about $200 bucks and strip out what's good in it, then take empty hull to the dump. If MPEM is good then it has value immediately.

ya that's ridiculous.

my goal....

to turn this hood.

1.jpg

into this hood.
not sure if even some of your miracle methods will revive this puppy, but I assure you i'll be reading that thread tonight. But the general idea is to restore the yellow.

425.jpg

or replace it with one that can be painted black. And avoid painting a rare yellow hood black....,
just holding onto it for sentimental value ?

1.jpg

but it can't stay the ugly faded yellow, that just won't jive, it will drive me nutso !

Use Tonka's method with that as seen on TV sauce. My hood, yeah, I bought that like that on Ebay for $120 shipped-- I stole that one! I bought another teal SPX hood for like $40 or $50 shipped.

I was happy to hear Spim happy with his new X4. This ski just did not need me anymore. I can't justify completely re-doing it just to make it 2-3mph faster. It really does fire right up hot or cold, hits 58-59mph while running rich and safe. Fully functioning switches and gauges and a trim that will stay working. I'm happy to get it to somebody who understands and appreciates this stuff. Spim is a high mile man and I think this set up has a long ride in it.

Yeah I put that last pic in there. She wanted to ride it and get some pics so I shared. We plan to spend a lot of time on that RXX. You guys can see why I never get out anymore. After the carbon fiber hull in PA deal I'll get her a better car, then us a better house. There just won't be any higher to go with Doos imo.

I thought it was this one?
But saw this one was near Nick

Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Like SeaDoo XP 800 - $17000 (Minnesota)

00U0U_2FUn2sUyZ5X_600x450.jpg
Custom; Full Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Hull. Like a SeaDoo X4 style hull XP 800. I made my mold from a ATM X4 style racing hull. This thing is 100 lbs lighter than a stock 96 800 XP. It jumps very high, very easily and easily out runs stock XP 800's . Every thing is stock except for an over bore of the motor and sponsons . Fresh 820cc motor this year. All hardware is stock from a SeaDoo 96 XP 800. I have been riding this for about three years with no issues. Rides very nice. Super strong and Ready to ride. Does not have the UMI steering on it now. No damage. VERY UNIQUE, There are no others like it.

This hull was made using Vacuum Resin Infusion and is probably 10 times stronger that a stock hull. $17,000.

I can also make you a bare XP/X4 Hull, No motor, no jet pump or no hardware. Just an empty bare hull ready to install your motor, pump and hardware. You install your own stuff. $15,000.

Go get it Spim! That galvanized Shoreland'r is nice, drop it to $450 so you can get the correct wheels and tires on it. The Conti looks vintage with that clapped mounting. And the last Shore is nice, but nothing beats galvanized--fresh or salt. I just paid $460 for my Shoreland'r and put a buck forty into two new rims and tires, and mine is a 1995 with torsion suspension for the cushy ride.

After all that leg work you just did Oscar you should have got the Galvanized Land'r. That'll hold them big girls you're running now.:D

dan, are those white shorlander's not galvanized as well? i know they're painted, but if they're not galvanized, and I'm sure they aren't aluminum, aren't they gonna turn to $hit?

Trust me! if I could get any other trailer I would but my damm garage door is exactly 96"(8') door.
It came out awesome. I'm real happy to have no more rust.
The rear section and crossmember are now galvanized. Only front hoop is power coated steel.

All doubles are over 102" wide

Typically trailers that are not galvanized are just painted or powdercoated. Once the water intrusion starts it all over. My single place is painted/powdered and it's flaking off. I thought about sand blasting it and painting it this fall, if it didn't come with my HX I would have never bought it. I understand from a money stand point on painting and galvanizing, but for longevity-wise galvanized is the way to go. Yes they will rust to pieces--in time. I have seen the galvanizing process years back, way cool how they dip the parts.

cool thx for info, cuse i do see lots of those white shorelanders, and imo, it is pointless to make a boat trailer in FL if it is not galvanized or aluminum, even the salt air rusts my stuff, let alone salt water

actually did some searching locally this morning, found one that's just a bit pricey $650, but fits my description, full size tires, new bearings, needs bunk carpet and some led lights.. I offered $450 and i'll come over today, and he himm/hawed a little, but we'll probably meet in the middle on price over the next day or two.

I 2nd that.

Just or reference. Sorry about blurry pic

and all fixed up

When I came to Florida in 1998, my then 4-yr old 1994 Yamaha WaveRaider sat on a painted trailer. I'm going to guess that I used the ski in saltwater a total of 10 times in a 5 year period. Trailer and ski were washed with soapy water and rinsed thoroughly afterward. After the rust set in, I realized that even though I cleaned the outside of the trailer, there really was no way to thoroughly rinse the inside of the square tubing. Obviously the trailer tubing rusted from the inside out  .

Here are some pics of the devastating effects of saltwater on a painted steel trailer:

Suffice it to say that both pairs of skis that I own now sit on galvanized, double trailers!

Widen your garage door opening, LOL and if they are over 102" fender to fender wide they are illegal to use on the roads. I have 2 X-4's on my double right now and I'm at 93" wide. Give's me 1.5" on either side to get in--no problem!

Yep, pointless when you have salt water that close to fresh water riding.

You know what that is right there--(other than a rusty hunk of mess)--A title.

HUH, very interesting.
Also, fender are required jik there are people running with out them.

When I was first looking I had the hardest time finding narrow width trailers.

Most I found where 102" or wider by few probably b/c fenders and/or my bad measuring
I settled for homebuilt one thinking it was an awesome score at a 1/3 of the price.
Then it stated rusting more and more and more till you know..................................

WOWSERS, your bunks look great though!

Yeah, I saved them and made a roll around jet ski workcart with them. You can just barely see one of the good bunks in this photo:

This was a pic from spring 2012 when I pulled the engine from one of my XPs to replace two freeze cracked jugs.
