Im sure i could do it with out but be nice to have a guide on removing motor ect. Its a pretty nice ski but the v in the hull the glass has worn thru about 6 inches n 3 inches wide. Si i figure i pull it all apart n fix it from inside n make it all look pretty no go thru everything , makn sure i have a solid machine when all said n done. Picking it up for 600 n its all there n running. If hull wasnt messed up i never take it apart

The SeaDoo service manual should have everything you need, you can download one from this site if you join as a premium member. Or just google it and you can probably find it elsewhere.

Man bad news it runs but compression test sucks. 90 n 120. Sucks i was really into the project. But dont think its worth it. What r odds i can just do rings n hone cylinders? Otherwise top end rebuild is to much money when can find a nice one for 1500 or so. Id just pay for membership to support site.

ya thats pretty sucky compression, safe to assume top end, or at least a tear down/inspect/rebuild, if you don't want to get that deep into it, then its time to sell it now, while its still together.

Havnt purchased yet was waiting on compression test. I think i can grab it for 300 bucks. Its all there n in pretty good shape. Potental to be super mint is def there. The hull is exactly like my 2000 xp was. A few inches in front of scoop grate glass is worn thru a layer. I think its from how it got loaded on trailor its life. Bunkers not high enuff n if water is to low it rubs when driving into position. My main concern is bottom end have much life left? Never been rebuilt before so shud have life down below..lol

With jetskis the bottom end is ALWAYS suspect. Also on the 97 XPs the MPEMs have trouble with water splashing it all the time and rotting the pins. If you take the motor out you HAVE to align it when it goes back in so keep that in mind as well if you dont have the tool.

But...for $300 it sounds like a dang good deal. I think I paid that much for a heavily locked up one last year.

i paid $450 for one on a trailer back in August, needed new motor, a LOT of work, and a lot of $ in parts went into it, and it sold for $1650, it kind of convinced me to never buy another 97 xp :) ever

I done so many motor jobs in seadoos i enjoy it as long as its not summer ..lol. but dont wanna open can of worms. Hull damage n bad motor is not best start seeing as yabcan find clean ones for 1500 or so

the 97 has a 787. your 2000 had a 951.

the 97 will be slower...

you can have the whole engine rebuilt for under $1500 i thought. (787) SES did 3 of mine, with 2 year no fault warranties (951s).

I also dislike the 787 MPEM, it's 'on top' connector allows water to pool and rust.

NOT starting a 787/951 debate. Just stating one is 20 more HP.

nothing to debate IMO, the 97 is underpowered with the 787, I've owned both, and with the 951 the difference is night and day, especially on the top end.

Ya thats what i am also concidering. THE 787 was awsome in the x4 hull but in newer xp hull its gotta be lacking. I just want a fun winter project but think this one is lacking when comes to.pros n cons... shit i wanna build something...lol. this ski still mite be worth parting out for 300 bucks.

Lol few years ago i been all over that idea. What im trying to accomplish is a second ski the kids n girlfriend can ride without gettn killed. I wanna ride my 04 xpdi. I owned that for 7 years n i bet i havnt put 3 hours on it because no one can ride the hx...lol
