As some of you know my 97 xp just died on me in the water, so I took her to the dealer by be to have her looked at. They tell me "we will get right on her first thing in the am, and let you know what went wrong" The following day, no call, so I call them 15 minutes before they close to see what was going on, guys tells me we went out to your ski, checked compression, and you have 150 on each jug, but you have no spark, we will know more in the morning. So following day, again no call. I call them this morning, I'm told we still haven't looked at your ski, maybe Saturday, but you will know the problem by Monday!!!!!! Why do they feel the need to string you along, just say its going to be a few days..... Anybody else have this sort of problem with dealers....... Rob.

Understand your frustration. Best way to solve the issue is learn how to fix it yourself. 2 strokes are pretty simple to work on and this board and others have all the info you need to get it running again. You also keep from getting raped on prices and/or having the dealer screw up your ski even worse.

....yeah... this isn't just a bike shop problem, its an any repair shop problem. they want you to be happy, so they tell you they'll be right on it, when they know that it will be a couple days. some places are better at managing expectations than others, but almost all miss the majority of the deadlines that they set for themselves. on top of that, all of the shops are up to their eyeballs in work right now because everyone wants to get their toys ready for the summer season.

I'm not proud to say it, but i'm not very handy at fixing things. If I don't hear from them on Saturday, i'm going to go get the ski and see if you guys can walk me through my no spark issue......I just get worried i'm going to screw things up worse. Rob

Its a very busy season for the dealers. They are probably prioritizing and getting the newer craft serviced before yours. If its over than 10 years old, the dealers don't want to deal with them. My uncle was screwed many times by a dealer up here (canada) and that made me never trust another shop. Sorry to hear you are having problems. You would expect proffesional service when you are paying top dollar at a dealership. For the rates they charge (90-100$+/h) that ski should be spotless and buffed to a high luster when you pick it up and running like new.

I worked for a merc and evinrude/johnson dealership. I understand how the shops work, but we were forced as technicians to soap down any engine and clean it and make it look as good as new. Test runs were almost half an hour in the tanks, or longer to ensure we never had a come back due to our work. I guess I had a different experience working for a reputable dealer, so i expect the same service if I were to take my own boat in to another dealer.
