Welcome Tarheel....
Coming from an old hand of Waxhaw, where we passed the time of day looking for old arrowheads and shooting rabbitts to bring home for supper!...How's it going?
I have read these post, not once, but twice. Trying to figure out why this guy took you to the cleaners. There are usually a couple reasons, your very young and impressionable, you don't know that much about skis, you've never dealt with a vehicular salesman or he just felt you out and thought he could get over on you. Although I agree with SeaDooingFreak (which, BTW, you could use a little less anger in being PO'd....), I'd very much be interested in his explanation of the hours on your ski. No, it will not run up hours if you leave the DESS lanyard cap on. If you do and happen to forget it's on, it will beep every 3 seconds (4 short beeps) for a short period of time. So, it would remind someone that it's on.
You are right, 7 hours is a full days ride. What gets me, is you said the dealer said it was crated. If it were crated, then I'd want a return of my money. Or him to give me one with 1 hour or less time.
Although I don't know what an RTX is, I'll assume your talking about the RXT....if so, Kelly's blue book for the retail (resale) in excellent shape is $9020. So, either you didn't negotiate a "brand new" ski with him, or he had this one, which was bought by someone, took it out for one day and decided they didnt' want it and brought it back.
I'd have some serious questions if he said "it was just taken out of the crate" verses the fact that it does have 7 hours and a few bumps and bruises. But the price you paid, also reflects the price for a used PWC, at retail value..........
What does your paper work say on it? You can look on the back of the PWC, top right hand corner of the hull, thats the HIN number. The last 2 digits are the year.......The more I dwell on this post, the more I get a little heat under my collar. You should talk to the dealer. If he's wrong (and knows it) and see's your un-happy, he's gonna try and do something to make it up to you. Like you said, the couple of services etc....., but for the first year, you should be under warranty anyway...I smell a skunk.
