I have, to date, purchased 2 rebuilds from SES engines.
Both installed without issue and look great. He has even called to verify I got the engine in the ski and it worked.
I have not had these engines in the water yet, but SES has been very professional and helpful to me. (I am not easy to please).
I would like to constructively say that many small shop owners do not have the resources to manage slick "sbt" web sites, or a social media team. Hell, I make it a regular habit to destroy the morale of any GM rep on the Chevy forums (I hate my '09 Tahoe with a PASSION and want the world to know).
However, SES engines has provided me with 2 great looking, and from what I can tell, well built engines.
For not much more than I was paying a local repair guy, who could offer me no warranty, to do the same as.
By rebuilding and warrantying the whole thing he knows it's a better product, and I know I don't have to stress about my next money pit.
Many of you here realize that doing top ends on 10+ year old engines is a bad idea. The new power from the top destroys the crank within hours. So, it's honestly best to save yourself from doing it 2x.
I'm even working with my repair friend who fixes dozens of skis, to 'outsource' the engine rebuild to SES, as to offer a warranty on his work (not labor), but maintain his business of repairs. It would free up time to move more skis (profit), and everyone likes a warranty.
I do IT work for a living, and several of my tasks are outsourced. I can get a better product easier, or even cheaper, by having a specialist do it.
I have been impressed with their rebuilds, willingness to repair damage to cases, and even fixing a bolt hole I stripped out, without me feeling ripped off.
Once I get the ski's on the water I will give a full review / report.
I hope to have no issues, (let's face it, even with a warranty, I don't want to spend my time ripping out an engine), however if I do, and they stand by the warranty, I'm more than satisfied, and will continue to utilize them for my winter project skis, as well as my own engines if needed.)
I have two 951s from them, one is in my personal '02 XP, one is in my '99 GTX LTD that may be for sale this spring
The ability to 'custom' build an engine is an excellent idea; many people would like to know what parts are in their engine. I would, for example, suggest 1 or 2 engine setups that you feel are ideal, one that's higher end, one that's mid level. Explaining the differences, would be great.
Does your shop have access to a Dyno? Can you build a few engines, break them in, and get us real HP readings of "stock" and "stock+1" and "Stock+2" (names I made up just now for your engines).
perhaps if one made, say 10 or 20 more HP using the factory pipe and 87 or 89, then I'd buy it over one that was less HP.
Just a small business owner trying to help another...
I charge $70/hr for on-site computer repair / networks / installs / backup setups / etc.
I hold two degrees, one in technical support, the other in data communication (networking).
I don't charge a truck fee, I don't charge when I'm not on site, I bill in 15 min increments.
I tell people flat out that spending $140 with me on your 10 year old PC is a waste of money.
I tell people the best free antivirus (security essentials!)
I tell them the best free antispyware (MBAM)
I run my company honestly and fairly. I can make a profit without ripping people off or selling them junk they don't need.
Just try to leave Worst Buy without a $300 warranty on your $500 laptop.
In home from Geek Squad?! Last time I checked it worked out to over $100/hr to have a high school kid take a look at it.
If you read 'the consumerist' (web site, check it out!) all they are told to do is sell sell sell.
I don't sell items. I purchase what you need and charge labor. That's it. (and parts, but I don't have a markup).
I don't have a flashy web site, I do IT and networks, but I'm not the graphics design type.
I don't have the ability to cover the state or whole US, so I don't use social media to promote it.
anyway, that's just my morning ramblings... I'm finally off most of the drugs after surgery and excited to feel like a human again, and not a vegetable.
