First Off…Thanks to Darthspeed, Rfoster, Flying Army, and others who have already completed this install. Your insight saved me some valuable time. My equipment selection consisted of the following:
Sony CDX-M60UI Head Unit
Dual SG-1 Universal Marine Splash Guard
2 - Sony RM X11M Wired Remote (1 on Swim Platform, 1 at the helm later this week)
Alpine PDX5M 5ch. Amp
4 - MTX TM7702 (7.7" Coax)
2 - MTX TM1004 (10" Free Air Sub)
Marine Battery & Tray (Stereo Use Only)
Blue Sea Single Circuit Mini Battery Switch
Marinco 12V Cigarette Receptical
Marine Grade USB Cigarette Port
Marine Grade Wiring
Rotozip and dremel were used for the cutting of the fiberglass. I used a jab saw for what minor foam alteration I had to do, and hole saws were used for the smaller round holes. I did spend about 4 hours patching the main wiring harness from where I cut it as eddie.jessie did on the rear starboard side. Wish that wouldn’t have happened.
I used a standard fish tape to pull the wire throughout the boat. Everything in the ski locker was run in plastic conduit. I installed an isolated battery in front of the cooler with it’s own switch. This just appeared to be the most simplistic way to attack powering the system. I charge my batteries after each use as habit. So, I have a couple of battery tenders to keep everything on the up and up. I chose to install buss bars to keep the wiring as clean as possible.
While I followed suit on what most have done for speaker locations, I did choose to put the subs in a different location. While it was a challenging decision, it worked out and sounds great.
All in all about 30 hours in the install. Took it out this past weekend, and everything was pounding. About 12 hours of stereo time, and still kicking on the initial charge. At WOT, you couldn’t even hear the motors. So, the goal was achieved.
