96XP Bogs Down when applying full throttle

Just like the title says.. I tried doin everything correctly, new battery, XPS-II Synthetic Oil.

The XP feels strong from standing still, but as soon as its going to go on plane, it bogs down? and it wont go over 10 miles per hour..

Your help is greatly appreciated thanks.
 
dirty carb filters. they won't allow enough fuel through them to maintain high speed. sometimes they will get up to speed for a few seconds but then the fuel supply runs out and they fall flat on their face.

Sounds like my problem! so clean/rebuild the carbs?

should I pull thread where you almost died when your boat didn't start because carbs needed rebuild.

Cheap, make sure everything is sea worthy before adventuring out by yourself jik.

More than likely ski's recommendation goes with what should be done on a 14+yr ski.

Your last thread you mention maybe you ran it out/low on gas. Maybe it sucked dirt and clogged filter..

definitely something to check. I ran low on gas and had to switch to reserve last year then had lots of problems. the fuel filter looked clean so i spent alot of time chasing down other possibilities. Finally ended up back at the fuel filter, soaked in castrol superclean and cleared up my problem.. Of course the previous year I had all the text book bogging problems of the gray fuel lines outlined in the above thread.
 
This is a little off topic but not far off. I did the procedure, changing lines etc on my 96GTI about three years ago, the carbs. looked pretty good so I just cleaned the carb. filters. Over the winter I decided to go ahead and rebuild the carbs. The carb. filters were pretty dirty, not with the green goo but just with dirt. So now I'm thinking the carb. filters should be cleaned every 2 years minimum.

These filters are tiny and you're running a lot of gas through them. Any opinions?

Ill never forget that day, believe me, that wasn't a joke, seriously, I havent been back to a River since then... It scares the crap out of me..

This time I WAS A CHICKEN, I stayed real close to the shoreline at the lake, trying the XP just in case lol, anyways, I DID NOT LISTEN CLOSELY AGAIN, look, I removed and cleaned my RAVES this morning to find this:

OK, I see there are GREY hoses coming out of the gas tank? replace those right...
Also... Is it easy to get in the carbs on this ski?

There's nothing to changing the grey lines, I just tape the new hose to the old hose and replace them one at a time. Here's a thread on the subject.

Im using XPS-II Synthetic (thats what the manual says) lol.. its just so freaking expensive, however, the previous owner used cheap mag oil from pep boys, not even a little synthetic.. so maybe thats why the raves look like they do, maybe the carbs look like crap too...

Did you not read your oil thread. :)
No, carb will not look the same from the oil but from the old gas or dirt in the filter.
 
oh oh, cuz I kept trying to get it going on Sunday, it felt like it wanted to go on plane, finally I gave up (like in an hour)

So I think this is how I messed up my last motor on my boat (657x), wow... unbelievable about the carbs..
 
Well I was finished cleaning the RAVES and getting ready to embark on "how to clean/rebuilt the carburetors" when I noticed the oil leak the previous owner told me about.... WOW!

Thats major, it looks like its dripping down from somewhere in the oil tank, the gas tank is under so I cannot really tell...

Wow... what do you guys think I can do this myself? Does anyone know about this situation on this ski? thanks..
 
Pull tank and clean grommet
Its held in by rubber strap and filler neck accordion boot.
 
Well funny... the oil thats at the bottom of the hull is "blue" (the old mag oil)

I pumped all my oil out this morning to remove the oil tank and my XPS-II Synthetic Oil is "brown"...

I got to save 3/4 of the gallon of oil (the baby is $54 shipped), so Im thankful for that...

Im worried that Im leaking from somewhere else?
 
Ok, Ladies and gents, finally had the guts to venture in and remove my carbs to rebuild them

Im gonna take pictures putting it back together for the next person who comes along and trys this... I was a little hesitant, but finally went in and removed them, Im gonna take them apart tomorrow morning clean them and put them back..

Ill do a tutorial, because if I can do it, anybody can do it!
