Yea I'd say so, Matt! Like for example, when I broke down, I was only a few hundred yards or so from shore, and I always stay close enough for this exact reason.. Knowing that something serious happened bc of the pop and then re sound when I tried restarting it, if worse came to worse and NO ONE was around and it was now nite time and I blew all 6 of my flares and burnt out my lungs on the whistle, id jump and make a swim for it, leaving the ski to "save himself"... But DEFINITELY NOT in the myakka river.. It's still risky only a few hundred yards out into the bay/gulf at night bc there are bulls sharks out here.. Hell, when I first dipped the ski in the water that day (before it got sodomized by someone other than myself), I actually jetted almost exactly over a nurse shark chilling in the shallows... But they're harmless for the most part. The only bite from a nurse shark down here that I know of was the girl had a shiny reflective ankle bracelet on, so the nurse shark chunked out her leg..
So yea, to each their own, I'll take the gulf and the occasional shark and stingray over a river with gators any day..

Maybe you need a one man inflatable survival raft. LOL

So out of curiosity, no ones chimed in, I'll be drilling the three broken bolts (no heads on them) out tonight I hope, but even after I do that, where does this head split, Matt Braley , is it at that top area I pointed to, or the bottom? All the heads I saw for sale on eBay had those two tabs ON THEM while it was off, so I'm assuming the bottom one?

The top and bottom of the 720 head split apart just like tht787

It's probably the corrosion from what's left of the bolts holding it in place.I would pull THE engine and separate the bottom end you can do that with the top attached

Once you pull the crank and pistons you can stick a 2x4 into the jugs and tap the head off

Yea I will eventually. I just wanna see how fugayzee'ed this thing is.. Also, something INSANE must've happened bc I backed these bolts STRAIGHT OUT and two of them had bends in them

It will be ok. I have a good 720 head I'll sell cheap picked it up and don't need it anymore

I'm just gonna nope.. Post for my laynard.. Snapped it clean off when I was "stirring my brew" (aka using my cheater in a circular motion)... Had enough clearance on the entrance, not enough on the return I guess, lol

Cool. I'm gonna pull the motor anyway, I don't think this head is good, both jugs/cases are fugayzee'ed and I highly doubt the crank is any good judging by the evidence so far.. That's why I wanted to take a peak in to see how effed this thing is

May want to wait for a good runner from a jet boat part out.

Ocod may have some parts I need too so I may just build from scratch.

Yea I've got the HX that I wanna focus on now anyway, as it'll be a better keeper as well bc then NO ONE can even ask to ride someone else on it, and it's hard to ride anyway, so that'll be my keeper

The SBT option is(was?) looking good right now. I have been in this position many times. Drilling is just not gonna happen, not for long anyway. A guy with a hand held drill and a cobalt bit may get one or two but not more then that. They are froze enough that they will snap the "easy out" before they break loose 90 percent of the time.

I have had good used low hour bottom ends trapped in "salt turd" engine before. I have gotten down right medieval on the top end I'm trying to get off once I realize there are too many broken bolts in them. My weapon of choice(don't judge me man!) is a sharp flat but wide punch and a five pound hammer. The punch tapers so once you start it in those gaps you can widen them. When your able to reach the bolts that hold the jugs to the case they will come out. You will have to get crud out sometimes so the socket can even fit right on the head of the bolt.

None of this is gonna happen without a good penetrating spray lube. PB Blaster works well but I prefer the "Deep Creep" because specializes in this salt deposit issue. You can spray but progress is really made when you get movement. I have a propane torch that I use to heat things up and get the penetrant soaking in. I have compressed air so I'll use a rotary cutter to dig right in next to a broken bolt and open up more area to spray. Once you get a piece of the head isolated on one broken bolt you can pivot it back and forth while you work the penetrant in. I'll clamp pieces with vise grips to try and get movement started. Make sure your wearing safety goggles while hammering because pieces can chip and fly off.

There is a head and a head cover. Every seem you see there is an actual seem. The top one is head to head cover and the lower one in head to jugs.

That is crazy! I actually started using a punch.. Ok I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything besides the 12 head bolts from the top..my curiosity on what these look like is lessening by the post.. Lol

racerxxx I PROMISE I'll read EVERY word you type in your response! [emoji102]
lol I'm at HOMEY DEEPOT right now to get drywall but while I'm here, I wanted to pick up a drill bit to get the 2 or 3 broken bolts that are preventing me to take the head cover off (going to be pulling the motor soon but not for a few weeks) do you know what size drill bit and type of material drill bit I need to drill them out of the the bolt holes in the head cover? Thanks!
