'95 XP800 - Whats it worth?

Today I looked at a '95 xp800. I am casually looking for a X4-787, and kinda liked the limited release of this model/year for some reason.

It had a locked engine (or jet, not sure), and the MPEM is laying in place but open, so I have to assume it will need a $1,200 rebuild and a $300 MPEM (sound about right?). Appearance looked very dirty but salvageable with its decals in tact. Hood and handlebar cover would need painted, and hump seat refinished.

Add in unforeseen surprises, it hardly seems worth it even if they gave it to me. Am I way off base?

Dead it is worth $400-$500. That already has the yellow single gauge hood and the hump seat that are very desirable. Only problem is that crank and counterbalancer will only worrk in that 787, but if you send it out for a rebuild that should be fine. But the electronics are all different too. The 96 mpem will not work for it so the mpem is more rare and may cost more. So the good and bad kind of weigh each other out. Another downside, the pink on the bottom portion is not a decal, that is gelcoat.

It's a neat ski, I have one. I also like the extended pump, and I've also grown to even like the pink on the hull. I'm not sure how much it's worth, I paid $1100.00 a couple of years ago, but it had a fresh SBT premium engine, and was real clean. I've not seen another one like it on the lake.

Good info, thanks. So the mpem has to be from another '95 xp800? That can't be easy to find.

Its the math that is causing me concern. $400 for jet ski, $1,200 for rebuild, $300 for mpem, and $300 for misc puts it at $2,200. Would it be worth that?

Or is it more a case that it would be worth $400 to someone that wants to part it out because of the seat and hood?

Mash if your passing and wouldn't mind sharing the info I could possibly be entertained. You can send a PM on it. I so don't need another project but hate to see it parted.

I'll let you know if I pass. I'm still trying to figure out what to offer, if anything.

Unless you have a friend in a no title state, who will buy it for you and then transfer the registration, no title would be a deal breaker.

I wouldnt buy a ski without a title personally, you never know it could be stolen. Im thinking the price on this one should be around the $free range...

Does Virginia have titles? And were they issued to pwc's back then? So before the titling rants go crazy, this info needs to be found out. My XP came from Jersey with no title, it was all done off a registration card. Pa didn't start to issue titles for recreation vehicles (pwc, atv, etc) until 98 iirc.

Yep, we have titles. My '95 SP has one.

The 96xp MPEM WILL work in the 95 without issue. The whole box will.

The only difference is the CDI box which was a bit different as far as volatile/non volatile memory. The 95 was unprogrammable, the 96 is. That is the reason why there are two different types of aftermarket rev limiters.

Good to know it is not just '95 XP800 MPEMs that work. I'll be in touch if I buy it.

Is there a disadvantage to it not being programmable as compared to later years? Seems this is a bit of a hassle, but maybe I am missing the positives.

Is the CDI box the one toward the stern with the plug wires coming out of it?

No..its on the other side of the grey box.

I should have been more detailed...to program timing and rev limit. They had special race programmers black in the day that specifically did timing and stuff, but didnt do what the normal programmer did.

Im pretty sure theres only two left in existance. Pretty sure its Bo Dupreist down there in FL, and watercraft magic out in cali.

Oh, oh - I'm back to being concerned. So it sounds like if the CDI box is fine, all is good, but if not I will need one from another '95 xp800 and probably take it to FL to get it working??

Lou you always love the opportunity to rub everyones nose in your spectacular find. :thumbsup:I'm still looking for one as clean as the one you found. That was a once in a life time deal!

I really didn't think it was that great of a deal at the time, the guy was asking $1200.00 and I only got it for $100.00 less. But looking back I guess it was a good deal. The trailer is the best built trailer I have ever seen, it's like the Cadillac of PWC trailers.

Lord it's hard to be humble.

What to doo??

A "what to doo" dilemma. In addition to the '95 XP800 previously described, this person also has a '96 XP for sale. The '96 motor is in better shape in that it turns over, but has low compression on the front cyl (90 and 130). Regretfully I did not test for spark - duh. Cosmetics are about the same (hoods need painted, seats need recovered). Hull is a bit more worn on the '96 in that the decals are gone and some glass worn down on the bottom at the stern.

The '95 hull is in a bit better shape, but the motor or jet drive is locked up and the MPEM may be bad. Includes the rarer single gauge hood and hump seat.

They both have gray gas lines, and both do not have titles, but were registered as recent as 2011 with the PO name & address available, making it probable that a title could be re-issued (but no guarantee).

Seller will take the same price for either.

So with the price being the same, which would be the better deal? I cannot get both - no room.

Thank you for any insight.

Both! Lol. I would personally think that the 95 XP has more valuable parts on it. The single gauge hood and hump seat are more valuable than anything on the 96 XP. Plus it has the extended pump and really is way more rare...but the no title thing, your looking at a lawn ornament at best if you cant get one

Hey Lou, I was wondering do you have links or pics of this cadillac of PWC trailers

This is the only pic. I have:
