You want a 97SPX water box Not a 98. Make sure it came from a 97SPX because there are differences in the XP, GSX, etc. white versions that look similar.

The spec 2 and the Novi's are the top stuff. That's what everybody is always asking for, that's the stuff that always sells first. I like taking the other aftermarket stuff and trying to make it work just as good. I admit it doesn't always work out, haha. The Westcoast head is great for a compression bump and a little extra water flow.

You will need read up on how to "chop test" and read spark plugs. Your also gonna need a tach. When you get closer we can talk a lot about tuning and what to watch out for before something bad happens.

I have not used them but I'm intrigued. I have not seen them on a pwc or on the used market yet so I don't know how long the probes are or how water resistant they are. If the probe wires are short it's gonna temp you to poke an extra hole in that pretty hull.

got the sponsons on yes it was a pain in the ass

What method did you use to get them on? I'll be installing some racerxxx sponsons soon I hope lol

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

The reason I suggest longer bolts is the short ones that came with the sponsons you only have about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch coming through the hull. You have to do this by feel unless you are small enough to climb inside the hull with the engine out. Also unless you have tiny hands you will have to take all the foam out I will get pictures of the inside tomorrow.

I shortened the storage bin to accommodate the oversized gas tank. I used my trusty heat gun and a piece of the material I removed to weld them together. Maybe it will hold up if not I will cut the other one down and rivet the bottom back in place. I didn't have enough meat to do this one that way .

painted the bars to match the trim tabs. For prep I lightly sanded off the anodized coating then went over with acetone. It gave them a brushed look I lost count on how many coats I put on . I also cleared them. All rattle can stuff.

You don't have to be that small to get inside an X4. I am 6'3" and 190 lbs and just got into mine to re install the factory sponsons on my 1996 XP. Funny thing was my 4 year old could not figure out where I was even though I was talking to him.

Not saying is was easy or fun but it can be done. Just don't panic if you think you might be stuck.

bars turned out great. To bad someone cut 3 inches off the ends they are to short.

How did you determine they were too short? No room for the controls? I ended up cutting about 1" of either side of mine as it allowed me to fit it under the Poppy cover.
