95 HX cranks, starts on one piston

Engine cranks fine, we rebuilt the carbs looks like the fuel is good but the engine will not fire. We were looking at the electrical to check for spark and pulled the front spark plug to make sure we were getting fire and the engine started up on one cylinder. We put the spark plug back in and again it will not fire up. Because of this we tore into the intake and oil pump system thinking the reed valve may be broken causing a loss of compression and everything appears to be fine there too. I have noticed several posts about too much oil getting into the engine causing starting problems so I'm a little stumped right now. How do we check to see if it's getting to much oil?
