278000423 & 278000822 : MPEM difference

278000423 MPEM is out of a 95 HX

278000822 MPEM is out of my 96 HX

278001134 replaces both 278000423 & 278000822



Two questions for everyone. Does anyone know the difference the 2 MPEM's? Can the 95 MPEM be used in my 96 HX?

didn't the 95 not have any gauges, and the 96 had a fuel gauge or tach only? that may be the difference.

The 95 & 96 in the garage have no gauges. Only major difference i see is driveline & waterbox.

They are both 720 engines... and if one number supersedes both of the originals... then there isn't a a difference.

They changed parts numbers....thats it. They are exactly the same.

The only issue with 720 MPEMs is if it was set up as a DESS MPEM or not. If the white/grey wire has a brown plug in the connector...its a good sign its a non dess. If the plug is missing its likely to have been in a machine with DESS.

It doesnt happen much...but I've seen a few out there. They come out of the factory non dess....but once set to be a DESS it cannot be changed back.

If you ever install one and it beeps at you when you put your non DESS key on the post....its been programmed for DESS.
