Went on vacation and left a family member to watch the house, he managed to destroy my ski, apparently he stalled out had to get towed in only to find water in the motor. After doing some research i seen that 2 motor mounts were broken. I flushed and drained everything replaced the mounts and got it running. It sounds great in the driveway but in the water it barely moves. Checked the supercharger to find it spins freely telling me I need to have it rebuilt.
What else can I be expecting besides that. I'm ready to sink it! Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks
John

Well.... Unfortunately... if the supercharger spins free... and you had ceramic washers still... There's probably going to be engine damage also.

Whatever you do... DON'T continue to run that engine until it's flushed clean, and the oil pump is checked for ceramic parts.

Sadly, if you did have the ceramic washers as mentioned above,,,,, you could have serious engine issues.

If the S/C has not been rebuilt, you would have had ceramic washers. I know there is a class action law suit about the washers but it is only in California at this time. I also think it pertains to newer models. But certainly worth looking into...

My advice ...

Pull the mag cover off, if your lucky you'll find the broken pieces of the washer in there. If you don't as insane as this sounds pull the motor apart (like splitting the cases). I recently rebuilt a 4 tec that had this same problem, a piece of the washer made its way into the lower crankcase, it lodged itself against one of the thrust washers and tore apart the bottom case. I'll post up a pic a little later of the damage so you can see first hand.

im no expert on 4 tecs but i would also say , as mad as you are, go easy on that family member...........odds are it was just bad timing. and 99% of people dont know to clamp the coolant lines when towing a Doo to keep from waterlocking it anyways.

That's a LOT of damage... 2 of 3 motor mounts broken, engine full of water (from towing too fast without clamping water line off as per owner's manual instructions), free-spinning supercharger (ie. no more cermic washers most likely.... though it could have been like that for awhile already and you only now discovered it).

I'm thinking tie an anchor to the family member and sink HIM instead! LOL! (Hey I'd at least threaten him with it... hehehe!). Seriously, he shouldn't have used your watercraft without permission 1st that's just wrong IMHO.

John you should expect to go ahead and pull the engine out of the hull and split the crankcase open to clean out whatever parts the supercharger lost inside the engine... this wouldn't have been necessary had the original cermic washers been replaced with the steel upgrades (better yet, had BRP never used ceramic slip washers in the superchargers to begin with... but oh well!).

How many hours does this machine have on it? Your supercharger has a 100 hr rebuild interval, if it has over 100 hrs and wasn't rebuilt then that would go a long ways to explaining that failure and you need to have it professionally rebuilt anybody can change out the cermic washers for steel upgrades but rebuilding the supercharger in full is a bit more involved.

Even with a non-functioning supercharger these engine's will run pretty good but with less power (presuming the lost supercharger parts don't destroy the engine internally while it's running... it all depends on where those lost ceramic washer pieces end up inside the crankcase they're like Russian Roulette!), you might not even realize it isn't making boost for awhile the engine will just run like a non-supercharged 155hp engine instead max rpm's will be lower and top mph will be alot lower.

You have to locate ALL the broken ceramic washer pieces though, and they could be anywhere down inside the crankcase John. If you haven't already, go ahead and pull that supercharger on out of the engine and inspect it to insure the washers are really gone and whether it lost 1 or both of them and nothing more. Then you can decide whether you're going to have to pull the entire engine out (I'm thinking you will need to though). If it lost more than just the ceramic washers (needle bearings, I'm thinking here!) then there will be no doubt about pulling the engine out and apart!

Regards.
