2000 XP Gauges not working

Just bought the ski last week and was told the gauges weren't working. The previous owner claims he took the front cowl off to paint the silver trim piece black, plugged them all back in and they no longer worked.

When I plug the key in the fuel gauge seems to rise a little bit, vts doesn't move, speedo and rpm just stay at 0.

I am not too good with diagnosing stuff like this and have been reading it's possibly the MPEM causing the issue. Anyone have any ideas or DIY's on fixing/diagnosing this?

remove the black glove box, and you can get to the wires. There are a bunch of them, but they really only plug in one way, unless you force something. My guess is somewhere one is bad. The gauges are all daisy chained for power (I think) so one bad connection could kill them all.
