Had to get towed back from the poker run today. As soon as I got past the no wake zone started to have issues. Wouldn't take throttle and bogged down. Limped in to the beach. Ran great last time out. Only thing I've done since then was rr the muffler to replace a sponson. I did notice some water dripping from the bottom of the valve on the muffler. A guy came over and took off the rave tops and one of the springs is missing. Put it back together and Took it out again and it seamed to clear up and started running good. But halfway through the poker run it seemed to go into a limp mode and would only go about 2400 rpm. After trying to limp home ran out go gas and got towed home. Put it on the trailer and filled it with premium gas (had used regular last two fill ups) and started in on the trailer and it sounds perfect now.

If anyone has an idea what's wrong let me know. Would Like to run in the morning!

Wish I could help. I am subscribed to find out what happened.

I'll put in my 5 cents here and it's probably only worth 2 but if the RAV spring was missing and it was then corrected
and the doo ran fine, I'd take another look at both of them - including the small air hose that runs to them. It may have
a tiny split that is letting the compressed air out. I had the same thing happen to me and the split was on the downside and
I had to run my fingers along the hose to detect it.

I don't believe a RAVE issue would limit you to 2400 rpm

*** are you sure you were not just low on fuel and did not switch it to reserve

He said took off the rave (tops) 2, and (one) was missing a spring. So I believe that part was about the RAVES. The leaking water on the regulator he said he noticed when replacing a sponson

With a regulator leak or a RAVE valve issue, you wouldn't reach max rpm, but not have a bog issue or be limited at 2400 rpm

Your ski doesn't have a limp mode. From your description it sounds like it could be the voltage regulator. Disconnect the red lead and see if it clears up, if it does replace the voltage reg. If that's what it turns out to be and since you probably don't have another one, you could charge the battery and just leave the red lead disconnected tomorrow as the battery won't charge. I ain't guaranteeing you won't need to be towed back to the dock.

Seems I've seen a lot of regulator issues lately. I agree with Lou and at least this is easy to diagnose, it's worth a shot to try

Also, make sure to pinch line to prevent water filling exhaust----->Hydrolocked engine when getting towed in.
Or go super slow!

Got towed back slow...left my hose pincher in the car by mistake. David from the Tampa club was experienced and towed me slow, took forever. I owe him a beer! The spring is still missing from the rear rave but evidently has been since I bought the ski so that wasn't the problem. What red wire do I disconnect....would like to try that tomorrow if its still bogging.

I wouldn't run it too much if its still bogging. It would suck to melt a piston on the new ski from a lean condition

Easy fix is a tip from Minnetonka.
Take spark plug out and use it plug hose(remove hose from head)

Are you talking about the PTO rave spring, or the waterbox RAVE valve spring on the exhaust. If it is the rear one on the waterbox part of the exhaust you are wrong, that spring is CRITICAL to maintain correct rpms

If you start it after a tow it will blow the water out. The issue is same as running on a hose. Just start the engine after the tow. (Assuming it works lol).

The water regulator valve had the spring, it was the rear rave valve that has no spring. Also I did start it up after the tow when I got it back on the trailer and did blow the water out. Going out now to work on it and take it for a spin. Will report back.

Go back to what you said you did before this issue occurred. You said you R/R the water box. Check the pipe to water box coupler as well as the water box out hose for a leak. If you have an exhaust leak the engine will suck it in and run like crap. These engines don't like even the slightest bit of EGR. Removing the seat and playing with the raves and it running better for a few min probably just put a fresh charge of air in the engine compartment.

Removed the red wire this morning from the voltage regulator and took it out for a test run. No dice, same problem as before. Only goes up to around 2500 RPM even at full throttle. It seems to run ok on the trailer, but once in the water it bogs down.

I checked my bill of sale and I do have a couple of days left on my 60-day warranty from the dealer. Guess I'll hook the red wire back up and let them troubleshoot it. Before I take it in I will double check all the connections on the muffler just to be sure something is not lose, and will run a compression test.

Very bummed about the problem this weekend, especially after trailering the ski 6 hours to Tampa only to have major problems. Thought I had the ski dialed in, but evidently not. I did have some fun though while it was running trying to keep up with all the new 3-seaters out on the bay. It was really choppy and it was all I could do to stay on the ski as about every 3rd wave I'd be out of the water.

This ski is new to you right? Were the fuel lines switched out from the grey ones? Did you verify what oil was being used and use the same brand. If this ski is the one I think from eatonton Ga it has not been registered and ran since 2011.
