Keep us in the loop. Sounds like it could be a fueling issue. But hey, if you have some warranty let them worry about fixing it. Trailer vs water is a completely different scenario. Once you put load on an engine it requires much more fuel, even for the same RPM.

Good luck

He said took off the rave (tops) 2, and (one) was missing a spring. So I believe that part was about the RAVES. The leaking water on the regulator he said he noticed when replacing a sponson

oh yep,,,,i missed that whole sentence,,ur right ,sorry.

This ski is new to you right? Were the fuel lines switched out from the grey ones? Did you verify what oil was being used and use the same brand. If this ski is the one I think from eatonton Ga it has not been registered and ran since 2011.

Interesting you had that photo! Yes, got it from Eatonton, but I got the XP that was sitting right next to the one in your photo. However I liked the seat better on the one in the photo, so they swapped it out for me!

It does feel like a fuel issue to me, but I'll report back on the compression tonight. It does have new fuel lines and the carbs were gone through per the dealer.

Oh ok thats good. I saw they were asking 2200 without a trailer? I would take it back to them asap before that warranty runs out. Hopefully they will honor it and fix the problem. From what i hear they are pretty honest people up there, a little pricey, but good people. Keep up posted on what is going on

Yea, that's the price I paid. Chad at TCH Watersports is a decent guy and I'm sure he'll take care of the issue. I just hope it's not something simple I should of found myself!

Hooked the red wire for the voltage regulator back up and checked the compression. Compression seems good, very similar to what I had before. About 155 front cylinder, 145 rear cylinder. When I pulled the plug they didn't smell rich like gas, in fact had almost no smell. Makes me think it is fuel related.

I also checked the muffler, I was able to tighten up the front two hose clamps, but I don't think they were leaking. In fact since the ski was running well Saturday for about 30 minutes I don't think that was the issue. I'm leaning toward the fuel supply. I did notice quite a few air pockets in the fuel lines.

Will take it back to the dealer on Wednesday since I do have a few days left on the warranty. If they work on it I believe they give you another 30 days warranty for that repair. If I didn't have the warranty I'd probably start checking out the fuel selector and carbs, but will save that learning experience for another day.

the other half of the ski's are still on the water.. :)

Wow. Very cool. I'm surprised at the number of newer units. I expected to see more of the older 2 strokes.

What fuel lines are on the ski? Obviously something transparent if you can see air pockets in them. Did you try changing the fuel selector position to reserve?

It has clear fuel lines. Did try reserve several times, no difference. It is getting fuel though maybe not enough. Going to dealer in the morning. Just got to lake Sinclair today....sucks its not running. Hope it's a quick fix.

oh gosh no, its the exact opposite...

these day's on the group rides i've done (with exception to the Lake Roy group ride with all forum members) the 4 stroke to 2 stroke ratio is about 4/1. many more 4 strokes out there than 2 strokes, especially for large events like this.

I guess since I read mainly the 2 stroke threads, and the passion is so string for these machines, I just assumed more
were riding these than the others!

I think the two stroke section is more active than the 4-tec section only because they are older therefore cheaper and need more to keep running. That or because the guys with nice new 4-strokes are willing to pay the $ to just let the dealer fix the ski for them. :reddevil:

Edit: That being said, anyone want to give me a nice 4-stroke?

Or, the guys with the 4-strokes don't have the necessary tools to even begin to work on them. The 2 strokes can be nearly rebuilt with just the tools that come with the tool kit.

get_real, I'm not sure if I missed it, but did you say you already checked your fuel filter above the tank? When I ran my challenger for the first tank or two after it's been sitting my fuel filter got clogged with all sorts of debris. Looked like dandy-lion fluff. It also led to a similar condition where I could limp along, but not go above a certain rpm (I want to say below 3K). Check that, it only takes a sec.

Had cleaned out the water seperator a week earlier.

Ski is fixed, no charge. It had 3 issues. Fuel selector had gone bad and a rubber washer was blocking the fuel. Also found the tank baffle had some cracks in the tubes and was sucking air. Dealer replaced both with new parts and new fuel lines from baffle to selector. Also found the ski was surging when using the vts. Found some corrosion on the vts motor leads, cleaned that up and no more surge. Also replaced the missing rave spring.

They tested it out on the water and all is good. Needless to say I'm very pleased. My 60 day warranty is over but they said to come back if I had any more problems. They also said they'd give me a good deal if I get a 3-seater.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Might hit the water tonight if the wind dies down!

Thanks for posting and solving it for us. Amazing how such "little" things can cause such issues.

So the times that it was running ok was the fuel tank full and when it got down to a certain level it would start sucking air through the cracks in the baffle? I have never seen a cracked baffle.

Back to square one......took the ski out today for a test ride and its not fixed! Same problem, won't go past around 2500 rpm. Can't believe it. With the throttle wide open I noticed when I moved the trim up or down I would get a momentary power surge for a second or two and get up to around 3000 rpm then it would go back down. Since the dealer had told me it was doing that for them and they had cleaned some corrosion on the VTS motor, I disconnected the VTS motoR leads and took it out again. That seemed to help for about 10-15 seconds then it went right to bogsville!

I think now my problem is electrical and don't think the fuel selector or baffle was the problem. Going back to dealer in the morning. Any one have any other ideas what could be wrong?? Guess the dealer is just guessing and replacing parts!

Did they check the voltage regulator/rectifier? Disconnect the red lead and see if the problem clears up. If it does replace the voltage regulator, as the battery won't charge with the red lead disconnected.

From what your saying it sounds like exactly what my XP did when the voltage regulator went south.
