Dan - Amazing as expected :). It looks like you have a fleet at the homestead....how many skis do you have? Also, are the rub rails original? If so what's the secret? Mine have a few minor scratches plus fading on the stern corner rails.

Thanks buddy. It's really cool putting it together, I feel like I'm assembling the first one it's just wicked cool. I have 6 skis plus my Speedster here, plus my very first 2 skis at my parents place. I actually should have answered that with "Too many". I also have 2 sleds and another 2 disassembled and stored up stairs in the attic, LOL--I have way to much crap.

Yes those rub rails are original and they felt like 100 grit sand paper. The secret is paper towels and lacquer thinner. It will just melt the "crust" off them and make em' smooth as glass. The you can hit them with peanut butter to polish them up a little bit. The corner is new old stock and I have another one coming if I remember correctly--I've ordered a bunch in the last week I can't even remember.

Like I mentioned a fleet - good for you. Like you told me when we first met "it's a sickness". I must agree! I constantly look for the next project but have told myself best to wait until the cooler weather for the desperate sellers.
Thanks for the tip on the rub rails. May head out to the garage soon :)

WARNING DO NOT USE THE CROWN BRAND LACQUER THINNER

I just touched up a rub rail and it turned gray, it's ruined. Have to clean an entirely new strip. I was at Lowes the other day and knew I was low on LT so I bought their Crown brand. Glad to know I just pissed away $18. Back to the Home Depot where you can buy decent supplies. ONLY USE KLEAN STRIP Lacquer thinner. Mother F'er I'm pissed.

Rub rails are on except one corner. Fuel filler, fuel selector is on, new fuel separator, some of the fuel line, front e-box. steering is partially installed. Got an NOS correct steering cable coming in, cost $10 more than SBT's BEFORE shipping. Mine shipped in for free--osdparts.com is the hook up. My cable was a bit jerky and the end was a little wadded out. I actually had to cut it on the inside of the hull with bolt cutters, then break it down, then drill it out so it was close to the transom, then beat it out with a drift and a 3# sledge. What a mother. I had another one in one of my other 95 limited hulls but figured that wouldn't go much better.

Still haven't touched the engine or carbs yet.

Sorry for the grainy pics, I forgot to wipe the lens off on my phone.

All of this work and you're going to cheese out and not replace the gray vent line with black line so it matches?!?! Ha bustin your balls, but seriously lol

I probably will, but I need the vent grommet by the latch and the one for the side of the hull before I can do it.

If you go factory graphics you MIGHT rival mpower with this one.

Yes, factory graphics are going back on. I secured NOS decals and hand traced (with a little help from Falksland) the rear to get the sizing 100% for Mike to perfect the graphics for the 95 XP800's and the coloring will be dead on and the sizing too. Mpower's ski was very inspirational for my ski and a supurb resto.

Here's the start of the rebuild. Now for the boring part---chasing the threads. You want to make sure you get out any old Loctite so when you thread in your fasteners they don't bind, clean threads will allow for a proper torque on each and ever fastener. After I finished that I will wash the cases with dish soap and water several time to make sure they are free from contaminates and blow them off with compressed air. Then once dried I can start the build. But for right now this is all I have, gotta work today.

Here's how I like to clean the case halves, I use a straight blade on edge and just flick it back and forth keeping it square to the case and NEVER digging under like you would a shovel. I like to keep the machined finish, I know guys swear by the 3M cookie cutter on a die grinder but I feel like those round the edges too much. I will then follow up acetone on a clean rag to remove the rest of the Loctite from the case halves.

Here is the one half of the case that I managed to get a pic of right after blasting and still had it taped up. I don't like to blast the entire case.

Now for tapping. I do EVERY hole and the cylinders are done too, just no pics. No there is no tomato sauce in there, that is my tapping oil jar with an acid brush.

If you can sneak it past the wife, the dishwasher is great for cleaning the cases. Of course that is what I hear, I have never done it myself, I think she is listening....

Lol, I've put cylinders in there before and she saw me removing them. I got the eye. So technically she never said I couldn't, these may go for a ride. She also knows she's raising two young children and one full grown child who doesn't follow instructions.:)

I have always wanted a shop with an oven and dishwasher, not for baking but for parts so I can avoid the dreaded EYE!

I have the oven/range for my powder coating so I'm half way there. I have made soup while baking parts. Yeah, the eye- if looks could kill I'd be dead several times over.

What would be ideal is to find a restaurant going out of business and get one of the big dishwashers. Ok, I am done dreaming. Damn, dreaming about ovens and dishwashers, what has this thread come to......

I'm new and learning about these 2-stroke beauties... Amazing work, I really enjoyed the thread so far - can't wait to see it all done.

Thanks hfgreg. The pics break up the craziness for me and also I like the documentation. It will not be 100% by the end of the week, I won't have the decals or new seat cover and a few other odds and ends but she'll be about 80% done I think and hopefully running and in the water. I'm hoping I can detail the build of the 787 for it so guys can see the assembly. I did get a GoPro for my B-day, just don't know if I could record myself assembling the entire engine. That might get boring for some.

I like the new badges. Big, bold, and in your face!

I would enjoy seeing the video of the engine assembly. I'm rebuilding my first engine this winter so a video would probably make things a little easier for those who are afraid to tackle such a project! Nice work by the way!

Thanks RedAggie, glad you like it. Also glad you're learning about these toys. It's very rewarding to know you can fix your own stuff.

LOL, I'm not making a video, but I will take as many pics as I can to make it easy.

The ski is not ready. Got real busy at my real job and that ate all my time and I slacked too much. Now the pressure is off and I can take a little extra time. But for now it's time for some fun with my entire family! Just picked up a case of oil today and headed to the shore for vacation.

Good idea, you just reminded me that i need to make a run to the stealer tonight and grab some more. Do you run XPS2 in the HX?? Or just the semi synthetic?
