RESTO 95 XP800 Resto Thread

Progress on the hump seat is coming along at a painfully slow pace.

My little 5 gallon air compressor can’t keep up with the die grinder, and my Roloc wheels keep glazing over. Overall I guess I’m happy with the results so far. Hopefully any minor imperfections on the foam will cover by the Jettrim seat cover.

For never having done upholstery prior to this, I’m really happy with how it turned out. There are a few minor imperfections in the foam, but nothing that won’t cover with a Jettrim seat cover. I really wanted to go OEM vinyl for this one, but from what I understand, the vinyl shows every little flaw & imperfection. It’s nice, but not THAT nice.

Ordered a Jettrim seat cover today. It’s identical to the one below, but will have pink stitching instead of yellow. It’ll also have the seadoo logo embroidered on the back instead of the stenciled logo. So kind of OEM looking except for the pink stitching:

FYI, Jettrim is doing a Black Friday sale starting this Wednesday for anyone wanting a new seat cover.

I’m off work the next 5 days, so I decide to get a jump on some things this evening.

Started with tackling the fiberglass gouge I mentioned earlier in this thread. First I cleaned all of the loose material out of the gouge, then blew it out with an air gun. An old toothbrush with a little acetone did a nice job cleaning everything up. After letting that dry out, I mixed up some Marinetex putty and started layering it in the gouge.

I mounded it up from the adjacent hull surface just a bit. I think it’ll look good once it’s sanded down. I didn’t want to mess with getting gelcoat and tinting the Marinetex, so I’ll just cover this with a decal or get creative with Hydroturf.

Decided to fill all of the old rivet holes where the mats were while I waited for the acetone to evaporate.

I had a syringe of JB weld epoxy laying around so I just used that. Not pretty but they’ll get covered.

Looking good, your going to wet sand and do the cutting compounds before the foot pads go in?
Yes. Turf will be the very last thing I do. I’ve already started with wet sanding. I just got tired of the yellow water leaking down into the hull through the old rivet holes.

I sanded one out in my shop over the winter, decided after doing that one that it was a summer job to be done outside

Yeah.. my driveway is currently tinged yellow. Unfortunately they’re calling for snow here in KC this weekend so it looks like I’ll be deep cleaning the garage once I’m done.

Got the ski sanded through 400 grit today. The ghosting where the old graphics were is almost impossible to sand out.. I had to start at 180 grit and move up from there. I still haven’t gotten all of the ghosting where the big Seadoo decal was on the front and rear, but it’s getting there.

I got tired of sanding so I decided to throw a little compound and polish on the rear of the hull. This is only sanded to 400 grit so there’s some scratches but all in all it should clean up pretty well, especially considering it sat outside uncovered its entire life.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to tackle the bottom of the hull? Since I’m not pulling the engine on this one, flipping it is easier said than done.
