well heres the deal, talking to a dude in florida and he was telling me that it would be a
good idea to change out the hollow exhaust valve with new ones and on ebay theres
the blown up 04 head for parts, also he said the flywheel bolts are prone to go so i thought
why not, having trouble getting the drive shaft un hooked do i need to remove the rubber boot the
half round thing at the block? is that c-clip under that, also where can i find tork specs.?
thanks guys, Im in deep now

Okay, I take it your ski is out of service, because surely you haven't started all this work because a dude said it would be a good idea??
You need to remove the clip that secures the rubber to the shaft bearing, after that the shaft will retract, that is if you have removed the jet unit?
I have never seen the flywheel bolts go on these, I have heard of them coming loose but that is only because the were not torqued properly in the first place,
There is plenty of places on the web with the torque setting for the RXP model.

would you mess with the valves?
I was told the 04s 05s had the trouble
thanks MO Morrison
also saw a blown up 04 head for parts on ebay

Why are you interested in another 04 head? It has the same hollow valves.
You might want to change them exhaust valves. I've seen quite a few destroyed engines because of them.

ha dennis, i was not interested in buying one i just was looking to confirm they had problems
i am keeping this for life would you change them if it was yours?
thanks dennis

I would change them for sure. I would also update the supercharger if it hasn't been done also.

the 08 and newer valves are much better but actually the failure rate on the old valves really isn't that high under normal use, but can happen. people seem to remember the exception and not the norm. flywheel bolts are not an issue under normal rec use, were you talking to a racing guy?

the c-clip is not at the block, it's at the rear hull end with the bellows and a metal collar(carbon seal) that need slid back but you'll have to hold the driveshaft from going back with it. wiggle, twist, and push and it will compress the bellows, and you'll see the c-clip. once the c-clip is removed, it will still be attached at the block, there is a special tool for removing it but you don't really need it. just have someone apply a little pressure by pulling on the driveshaft and gently tap the seal bearing forward with a brass rod and the driveshaft will come right out.

you need a service manual and will have all the torque specs and how to take everything apart. prem members here get them free but can be found in lots of other places cheaply as well.

On the exhaust valve issue, I am to beleive that they are only a problem if you ingest water into the motor or drown the whole ski as it can cause a localized corrosion spot on the valve which when the engine is running will heat up and allow the valve and stem to separate, thus dropping the valve into the piston. But that will only happen if you first get it wet somehow.

Is this correct?

all i was told that the 04 and 05s had hollow valves
not good they must have had a lot of back lash
and decided to do something about it I think

yes, the problem is if they get wet. moisture from improper winterization is a common culprit. getting sufficient fogging oil to the exhaust valves isn't the most straight forward task for people who aren't aware they need extra care.
