01 xp starter location?

The starter is under the carbs (left) Side of the engine

thanks this is the problem im having. i have 12.5 volts in battery, checked started solenoid it has 12.5 volts to solenoid. (solenoid is brand new) when i hit the push start button i get a faint click out of solenoid box. do i have a bad starter or solenoid?

jump the solenoid with a pair of needle-nose pliers. while WEARING THICK GLOVES. then push start.

you could get zapped, enough to harm or kill you. so please be careful.

you need to take the solenoid of out the list of possible failures, so just jump it...

I did this when the ground on mine came off a few weeks ago, and lived... i replaced the ground wire off the gizmo and was good to go! (until my crank went)... exactly 1 tank after last rebuild. uke:uke:uke:

I would check for corrosion on the battery cables and terminals. Also it could be the battery, just doesn't have enough amperage to turn the starter. Take the battery to an auto parts store and have them test it under load.
