WINTERIZING your PWC, ASK QUESTIONS HERE

docdrs - that's what I did this year. Run it until you see pink out of the exhaust jet.

I would fog both...protects different parts that way.

Agree... I ran it while funneling antifreeze into the engine. I did over kill maybe of a whole 4 litters, but was hoping it would come out the pisser which never happened.

YES fog both!! One gets the crank, other the pistons.

For those using the PINK RV/Marine AF. ACO Hardware has it on sale for $2.99 minus a $1.50 mail in rebate = only $1.49 a gallon plus a stamp.

Limit is 4 gallons for rebate. But that's not to say you could go back another day and buy it at sale price and not send in rebate....OR......(YES, these rebate companies do cross reference names and addresses...so put the second rebate in another name & address.)

I'm outside of Atlanta, it doesn't get much lower than 40 degrees around here. I store in a non heated garage, and don't add any anti-freeze, but I've been known to stick a 100 watt lightbulb in one of those hanger/holders under the seat when it gets cold for any length of time as 'insurance'.

Of course if the power went out, I guess I'd be screwed.

or when they stop selling those bulbs... i had a b*tch of a time finding them last season... i went out for a run in March to make sure my new ski worked, then it got below freezing the next week...

As I've said, Thank GOD im at the southernmost point in the US of A..... although someone DID mention last year, FL had a cold snap.. I remember it was last year and it was SO COLD down here for a week, that I thought i was in New York again....brutal...

Since my ski is an unreliable POS, I fog the thing and clean the plugs after EVERY Ride anyway..

do you have to winterize the bird when it gets cold?

actually, she's an indoor bird, so she's adjusted to 78 degrees year round...thats why sometimes after she flies and comes back she's panting, she's not used to being in the 90-100 degree heat all the time..

I doubt the bird flies in the house unless he keeps it 90-100. And I would guess she comes back, since SPX said she comes back panting.

The crank is continuously lubed by the oil injection pump, why do I need to fog that ? We never do in 4 strokes.

Agreed you're not going to get much lubrication to the crank by spraying fogging oil in the spark plug holes or through the carbs. however I would still do both because a little extra lubrication to the cylinder walls and pistons is certainly not going to hurt anything.

Lou

But if your doing it thru the carb, throttle body while the motor is running and burning the oil , how much is really getting to the rings? If you are then going to fog thru spark plug then crank it in the flooded engine mode?

Good Post ... Maybe sticky??

I would be cautious about the pink antifreeze though. It can be a little confusing, because there is a picture of a boat on it. Some of them are just for the plumbing systems in boats/RVs etc. And not intended for use in Aluminum engines. Make sure your read the small label on the back. If it is just plumbing antifreeze this stuff will crystalize and expand and could cause headaches come spring.

Understand that in your 4stroke the crankcase is already full of oil, in two strokes it is not. This is why you spray fogging oil through the intake system (I take the flame arrestor off and spray fogging oil right into the throat of each carb).

It's your ski, if you don't want to fog it don't.

Lou

:agree: :agree:

Not going to argue with you docdrs, if you don't want to do it don't, just letting you know what I did, via research here, net and talking with a seadoo rep., but it's your seadoo do as you like.

Yup... except I don't take the arrestor off, just the silencer (cover) and spray thru the arrestor, little less work and achieve the same thing. This is better to do than the head if you have to pick one or the other, cause if there is any water in there you can get rusting etc. But why not do both and golden!

I guess docdrs knows more than the people who build the SeaDoo's.

Lou

And yes, i think i posted it in another post and not this one.. she's fully flight trained, has been since she was about 4 months old...she's about two now...gets cranky sometimes and hangs upside down in the trees for a little bit before she comes home bc she's been in the cage all week...

And DOCDRS; I would literally do it just for the piece of mind...I dont hafta winterize my ski, but it IS a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD SKI, so i fog my motor after EVERY SINGLE RIDE and the carbs ALMOST every single ride...To me, not worth the risk...
Good Luck with whatever path you choose..

Sorry guys , I guess I should have specified throttle bodies and the rfi's and di's. Definitely you need to thru a carbed or premix doo. When I rebuilt my di I was surprised by the amount of oil in the crankcase so I'm not worried about the crankshaft. I suppose maybe it would help lube the lower ring... fog thru the TB, while thru the spark plug hole you get the upper ring. Although with the amount of oil on the rave valves I would think lower ring lubrication isn't a problem. I just like to know exactly why both should be done and the exact reason why .

Hey after I drain the water out of my marine engines , I always fill them up with pink antifreeze.....Its not necessary but it makes me feel better.

I've got a quick question... We have always ran the fuel out of our skis and boats at the end of the year. I see people here are saying to top of the tank to prevent condensation in the tank over the winter which makes sense. Should I fill up my tank and add some fuel stabilizer or will I be OK leaving it empty like it is now?

I just finished winterizing my 96GTI, I'm holding off doing the other two until the first of Nov. Anyway with all the talk about RV antifreeze, and since RV antifreeze doesn't specifically say safe for aluminum, I decided to just stay with regular antifreeze. Yes I know it's not politically correct, but I'm not going to release it into the lake, I'll recover it and then flush with the hose next spring. Here's what I used I had a gallon in the garage, it only takes about a quart to do a ski.

Also I am attaching a picture of the loop that I use when I pump antifreeze into the engine, this way you can see the antifreeze circulating. I'll leave this on until spring.
