I am starting this thread in order to help cut down on the number of questions about winterizing. Rather than answer 50 different questions I'm thinking we could answer them in this one thread.

So if anyone has any questions about winterizing please ask them on this thread. This is not my thread, I'm hoping some of the experts will answer questions also, I just started it as a convenience.

Ok I'll start. What is the low temp for required winterizing. I'm thinking if I keep the ski in an enclosed garage where the temp will drop maybe to 40 degrees I'd be ok.
 
I'm sorta in the same situation, but I winterize my PWC's anyway. For a couple of different reasons. One being what if there is a power failure and the temp. drops below 32F, these ski's have aluminum blocks and unlike cast iron it doesn't take much pressure to crack or bulge the cylinders. Number 2, it's just good practice, the antifreeze has corrosion inhibitors, and the engine needs to be fogged, fuel treated with Stabil, etc.

I would winterize it if there is ANY chance your local weather will dip below 30 even 1 night. Its easy and cheap. Why take the chance of ruining an engine. Most people think if there is only a tiny bit of water that it will not freeze, its quite the opposite. Take a glass of water and fill it and then take another glass and dip it in water. put both in the freezer and tell me which one freezes first. It may not be enough to split an engine case or cause problems, but why take the chance of your engine internals rusting. Last year several members from FL and AL had to rush to winterize at the last minute due to some freak low temps down south.
 
Oh, and thanks Lou!! I kinda getting tired of saying the same thing over and over. I know i have ignored several "how do i winterize threads" just because im tired of typing the same thing when the answer is just 2 threads down the list.
 
Well not really, I'm not sure where Devon is, I suspect England. Unless you live in a temperate climate I wouldn't recommend it. I guess if you want to use a SeaDoo year round you should get a 4-tek, with a closed cooling system.

Having a bit of an issue finding aluminum safe antifreeze. The stuff at advance and o reiley have rv marine antifreeze but it doesn't say aluminum safe . I sent an email to peak and asked them since advance has it on sale if it was aluminum safe and the technical person said yes, since it doesn't say it on the bottles I don't know what to do . Order aluminum specific antifreeze and have it delivered .?
 
I've used the pink RV/Marine antifreeze for a long time in boats(cast iron) and a couple yrs in the Seadoo with no damage.
It is safer for the environment all the way around. I would go ahead and use it.
 
Since most car radiators are aluminum, I'm sure that all brand name antifreeze is aluminum safe.

Lou, the walmart was all outta pink antifreeze. Can I just use some of Ma's pink lemonade?

Naw, I'd use some of Pa's shine, it ain't gonna freeze. He strains it through a radiator so it should work.

Jake, If Wallymart was out, why don't you use windshield washer fluid.
It's good to about 20 below and it's usually blue. It even has cleaner in it to clean the engine while it sits for the winter....Just start her up, flush her out and it's clean for the summer.

BTW - would this work?
 
and idea about IF the motor is not running? not too sure when ill be back up and running

pour in antifreeze
pull the plugs to fog the cylinders, probably good to crank the engine or rotate the engine manually to distribute the fogging oil
stabil in the fuel
 
What an amazing weekend up here in Ontario to finish off the season. First time since I bought it I finally threw myself off lmao. Great times!

I just did mine and my brothers on the weekend. Seadoo shop up here in Canada sells the marine antifreeze (safe for the environment) and only $10 for 4 liters. I took off the top hose and with a funnel and ran the whole jug thru the system while it was running. Lots came out, but for sure got everywhere. Fogged, stabilized and sprayed seadoo anti-corrosion everywhere. Bring on next season.
 
On the pink RV/Marine antifreeze, some of the -50 types dont say for aluminum, but most of the -100 types do. At least the is the difference I have found. Also DONT use car antifreeze. it is not safe for animals and really bad for the environment.
 
ALWAYS winterize.
we had a boat stored in a heated garage (one vent from house above goes to garage)... renter moved out, never paid heat (oil) tank went empty. cracked the block on a brand new 5.0L V8 ...

ALWAYS winterize it. the $10.00 on parts and the hour is worth the security of knowing your safe.
 
:agree: I keep mine in a heated garage, what if there is a power failure, it's been known to happen.

A buddy of mine says he just tips it up and starts the engine. Never had a problem... NOT THAT I'M GOING TO DO THAT.... but how do you justify not spending the small amount of time and a gallon or 2 of antifreeze??? He's never had a block crack. I asked him if he was willing to risk it and he says sure. He's more worried about getting the gas out of it. I told him the stabil will take care of the gas and to use his time on the antifreeze. I even offered to do it if he brought the antifreeze over. He said he was fine!!!

WTF???
 
:lol: I wouldn't be too worried, the winters are pretty mild in Nebraska, hardly ever gets below freezing.

My father in law lives in Maine, says they have two seasons, 4th. of July, and winter.

I have had seadoos since 1999. I've always winterized according to the mani's instructions. This year after doing my gtx di with the 5 clamp sequencing I'm thinking there has to be a quicker and easier way. So I bought a cheap submersible sump and am going to put it in a big bucket, behind my exhaust, with some rv antifreeze, hooked up to the quick flush connector on my seadoo. Start the doo, plug the pump in, run it for a few minutes , unplug the pump ,and shut her down. Any thoughts on this?
 
If you fog thru the spark plug hole do you need to fog the air intake?......I see no reason to but maybe I am missing something
