Would you buy a 2003 sportster le 130 hp mint condition with less than 30 hrs for $8000
OR
1996 speedster for $4800 with twin 85hps boat in good shape but few hours on the motors knowing that they may need work in the near future. I understand that I could probably replace both engines new and still be out about the same cash as the $8000 2003 sportster.
Note that I'll be towing a lot of skiers and wake boarders

Any thoughts?

I would go with the 96 with the 720's. In my humble opinion the 720 is the most relaible, and service free engine that SeaDoo has ever used. At 85hp ea. you should have pleanty of power. I am probably biased because I have one in my 96 GTI, has never needed engine work (knock wood).

I would go for the older boat. But both seem a little over priced. I would try to get the 96 closer to $4k.

I'm a fan of both, but I would have to go with the cheaper of the two. I have a 97 GTI with a 720 engine. It's simple and dependable. However... I also have a 2001 Sportster le with a 951. It's an awesome boat and I love the observer seat. It also has a ski pylon that you can use behind the middle seat. I don't think you'll have those extras on the 96. I bought my 2001 Sportster in pristine condition for $4,300. I like the upkeep of only one engine vs two.

I agree with Dr. Honda that the 96 should come down to $4,000. If you were going with the 2003, then I'd try to get it closer to $7,000.

my 2001 challenger has the twin 85hp and it has plenty of power and I tube and wakeboard a lot and it have never left me wanting more power. I agree that both seem expensive I agree with Dr Honda to get it down to atleast 4k if not lower.

I just found a '96 speedster for $4200 in OKC. I'm thinking of (with y'alls info) taking a drive to The City and check it out. What are some of the things I should be looking for when looking at the '96 model?
