TPS on RFI

It has to be reset with a BUDS system. But, a VTEC or CanDooPro can also do it. They aren't cheap, but if you are keeping the ski... It's worth owning.

BRP pretty much has the TPS locked down. As Doc mentioned, there is no mechanical adjustment.

Well, if this ski proves tried and true, I may invest in the candoo pro,... just such a big nut to pay for the unit,.(more than I paid for the ski/trailer, lol).. guess it boils down to how many times it will save you,... If its a 'set it and forget thing',... then I would mind paying the 120.00

I had a battery issue in my GTX that tripped 7 codes. All because of a stupid junk battery. Then it screwed with my IBR Module.. Bought the Candoo, installed a good battery, cleared the codes, good to go.

Sadly, you pretty much need it if ANYTHING goes wrong on your ski, especially the 4-tecs.

i know it's some $$ to put out for a candoo but through experience with the stealer not resetting my tps right, i bought a candoo pro for peace of mind that i can do it myself. it seems that many dealers don't know jack about the older 2 strokes. when you reset the tps you need to make sure the throttle is fully closed which means loosening the idle set screw and possibly the throttle cable. do the reset, then adjust the idle to spec.
the dealer didn't know that.

...if you go on the machine twice at the dealer, then your halfway to paying for one. Better yet if ya had a couple buddies all with SD's you could combine funds, but we all know how that goes,... 'Bob has it when Fred needs' it bla bla.....

I believe I read in my shop manual that when the battery is disconnected for a period of time,... all codes are cleared.

There is a capacitor that retains specific memory for MANY months. For example.. How many skis have the battery removed for the entire 6 month winter season. But,,, when we hook up the batter the hour meter knows how many hours are on the ski..

That said,, maybe skis, like later model vehicles, if you disconnect both battery cables and put the terminals together for 15 seconds, that will often clear the codes as this will discharge the capacitor.

yep and you can also program your own dess keys! we all know ho much a pain it is just to have a dealer program a key! no more relying on stealers!

That is a bonus,, Next time I plug in I am going to re-program my keys to work on any ski I own. I'll keep the low-speed low -speed and the high high-speed. But don't want to deal with the, "is this the right lanyard for the ski...".

lol! when i bought my new ski last month, had them throw in a extra dess key and i said oh and i will program it myself and they said you have to have it done here, i said i can do it myself that i own a candoo pro, they gave me this real dumb look and said it's probably illegal and made by hackers! and assured them it is perfectly legal.:D

I think they count on ppl being clueless,... thats how they make their money.

For kicks I asked them how much for a new key, they said 35 for the key and 50 to program it!

Other than a slight 4 stroking at super low rpms, my 01 is running fantastic!,... so I really have no direct reason to pay them 120.00 for the hook up.

It's not just for the TPS... it's a great tool for diagnosis of any RFI issue. AND... if you sell the ski, you can just sell the tool. I'm sure you will loose less than the $120 in the end.

Additional licenses cost $99 and there is a max you can buy. As noted above, 4 come with the purchase.

Good point Dr...thank you... so does the $400 include programing for two skis?... or is each ski additional $$. (I have two SD's)

It's good for up to 4 skis. It's one of those tools that you don't need much but when you do it saves tons of money and time from the dealer. If you plan on keeping the ski long term and adding a ski it may be worth the investment. I bought one last year to reset my tps and I feel like it already paid for itself because of the time and hassle of going to my local mechanic which is not so local. Good luck
