mmmmm since you told them you'll be in.... They know you want this truck....Did you talk price yet? price on trade in?

Don't sign any papers for the new one until you have agreed on the trade in price.

Nice truck.

Nice truck.

This ain't my first rodeo :)

.................

The truck they have there has all the basic options I'm looking for (including the backup camera) except for the side step which I guess wouldn't be a big deal to add on. Issue is, this truck only has the V6 3.6, not the 5.7 hemi.

From what I can see, the towing capacity for this truck is 4200 lbs. My boat dry weight is 2700. I just went out with a flashlight to look at the plate on the trailer for a trailer weight and the sticker I was looking at just has GAWR 3500, guess I'll have to look in the daylight for another plate with the trailer weight.

..................

Well... from what I'm reading... the V-6 isn't too bad, since it's now matched with the 8 speed trans, and they got a few more HP out of it. I guess if you don't plan on anything more than the boat you have now... you are fine. BUT, I would hate to be limited by the engine. But then again... most of the reports I see about towing with the v-6 8-speed aren't in hilly sections of the country.

I guess.... flip a coin. I know my 4.7 isn't bad... but loosing 80 or 90 Lb-ft of torque would be rough.

I think you'll be happier with the V-8. A friend at work has the new Ram with the 5.7, says he gets pretty decent mileage with the MDS.

update - still beating my head against the wall. I was all decided on the truck, thought it was a done deal 3 days ago. There were 2 of the exact truck fairly local. My local dealer tried to get them for me and they were both gone. Now he's trying to get one that is 4 hours away. All the incentives expire on Tuesday....I may end up with nothing

well I finally got er dun. Ended up with a great deal on a dealer demo Ram Quad Cab 5.7 with 4,000 miles on it. It's covered bumper to bumper with dealer decals they have to remove. I didn't think to snap a picture of it with all the decals on it. It has the spray in bed liner Plus it has the backup camera and posi-traction which the truck I planned on getting didn't have. $4750 in manufacturer rebates. I told them to add the chrome side steps, the hitch, and chrome wheels (it has black wheels now, which I liked at first but said I wanted them swapped for chrome), and I still got $2000 off for the mileage. Pick it up tuesday or wednesday after it gets detailed.

I almost went with the Longhorn with heated seats and steering wheel and the one option i think might have been real beneficial pulling into my garage - electric fold in mirrors. They had that in the "Maximum Steel" color which I almost went with, but decided I liked the Mineral gray better and since the rebate program ends Tuesday I snatched this up before there was nothing left to choose from.

Thanks guys for all the help in selecting the right options. Will post a pic when I pick it up.

Hey... shoot me a PM or TXT when you are getting ready to go get it. If I'm free, I'll wonder over. Besides, I want to talk to someone about the 1500 Diesel.

it wasn't technically for sale, it was a promotional truck that they took to different events. I asked if they would consider selling it and they said yes. I should have taken a picture, literally covered bumper to bumper with decals.

Any pics of the new ride yet? I went and picked out an 09 Ram yesterday, take delivery on Monday I hope. That new coil link rear suspension is smooooth and the options in the newer trucks are unreal. Comes with a heated steering wheel! I really liked the back up camera, I bet you'll be glad you got it in yours. I had wanted a quad cab, but this one is a crew, so damn big the wife says she won't drive it unless she has to tow the boat... Perfect haha. The MDS in the 5.7 was so seamless I couldn't even tell it was working.

the Dodges are NICE looking trucks. I'm not brave enough to get back into the Chrysler built vehicles. Had a jeep for the longest time and loved it, but couldn't own one now that I relied on to actually drive on a regular basis.

I've never been a brand loyal type of guy. I've owned many different brands including ford, GM, dodge and Nissan trucks. The Dodge never failed me once with the exception of needing a new fuse box connection because the previous owner poked holes in every wire looking for a short (there wasn't a short, the fcm was unplugged). The dodge was my daily driver, had 230000km on it with no issues, before it got slammed.

yeah I wouldn't say I'm brand loyal either. I'm pretty risk averse though, so I err on the side of caution most times. Which lately has kept me in Honda cars. I wouldn't mind owning a Toyota truck, but they're too damn expensive for a used truck. To get one under $20k it has to have 100k+ miles no it.

i picked it up this evening, will post some pics tomorrow. I would have like the heated seat and heated steering wheel but was running out of time to buy before some of the rebates expired on Tuesday. I haven't really driven it on the highway yet, mostly back roads all the way home, I did punch the gas once and that 5.7 has got some power!

Well, I am not either, I have adventured into many brands of cars in trucks over the many years I have been a driver and owned a business.

I even ventured into the land of Audi, long story short, I hate the brand so much now I will not even consider a VW. I loved the BMW I purchased to replace it and now I am the nervous owner of a RX8 where the engines are known to fail randomly. Prior to that I have owned Toyota, Honda, a couple different Dodge Trucks, a Mustang GT and the list goes on and on.

When it comes to my business, I tried Chevy, Ford and Mazda trucks, all 3 spent too much time in the shop for repairs that I felt should not be needed at that point in the trucks life. Backing up, when I first started my business and needed to expand, I could not afford much. I found a guy that fixed up old Toyota Pickups and sold them cheap.
I grabbed an old Toyota pickup for $1200 with 160K miles on it, I wad a little nervous that it would not be dependable, man I had no idea. I ran that truck for a few years until it had 250K miles on it and sold it to my BIL who drove it until it had 350K miles on it. He overheated it and ruined the engine (never checked the fluids) I bought it back from him. I had plans to make an EV out of it but the economy tanked. I sold it to a client, he tossed a junkyard motor in it and it is still going, 400K + Miles on the chassis now.

Since then I tried a Chevy, Mazda and Ford truck, all about 2 years old when I purchased them and 3 years old when I sold them back off.

I cannot afford for a vehicle to be down, I need to know it is going to serve me every day and only need maintenance. Those 3 trucks could not do that. I went back to Toyota's only and my last 2 trucks both 2006 Taco 4x4's that I purchased brand new, went 110K miles without a single problem before I sold them off (economy tanking)

I decided to go back to my roots, I purchased an old 1995 pickup last year with 180K miles on it for $2K. Did a $75 tune up on i (plugs, wires, cap , rotor) changed all the fluids and went to work. It now has 210K miles on it and never gives me a problem. As also mentioned, I have a 2007 FJ Cruiser purchased with 50K miles on it. It has close to 120K miles on it now. Not a problem other then a dead battery.

Actually I discovered last week it needs a rear axle seal, my first problem with that truck.

Granted, I personally had a Dodge Dakota pickup and drove that 100K miles with the only problem being a brake caliper seizing. I towed my RX7 all over the country with that truck to Autocross events. It was a great truck, but, I felt I was in the minority with it, I heard too many stories of people having bad experiences with them. I replaced it with my FJ.

So, while I may appear to be a brand whore now, I really like all kinds of cars and trucks, I was only conveying that,in my experience with my business, Toyota trucks rock. I am so impressed that I will only buy them for my business and personal use now.

When it comes to cars, I am ADHD, so I will continue to buy all different brands and types, my bucket list includes Jaguar, Lotus Elise and a Maserati Quatrro Port.

After owning 2 Audi's back to back, I consider myself to be a risk taker. I could start a new thread and tell stories for hours about my Audi experiences.
