Some questions hydro-turf installation.

Hey guys, I am about to do a hydro-turf install, since the OEM matting looks like cooked bacon from the good old sun. I just have a question regarding the 1000 rivets that hold the matting down. What's the best way to remove these from a 96Xp? Thanks:thumbsup:

Here's the way I do it. I use a sharp wood chisel to take the heads off the old rivets, push the old rivets down below the fiberglass and use 5 minute epoxy to fill the old rivets holes. I don't push the old rivets all the way out because it leaves a cavity so the epoxy won't run out.

thats what i did also, and clean it real well, using a strong soap at first, then rinse clean, then something like grease lightning and also those majic erasers, then rinse and dry, and right before u install new ones, use a lint free rag and rubbing alchohol, this make a real good surface for proper adhesion

Should I sand the applied area also? I hear it's a good idea but idk if necessary.

just a center punch, and eraser will do it well, try it

Sorry to hijack this thread, but it's got great info and I'm about to do this myself. However, it's on a 97 SPX, with the raised texturing in the footwells instead of the matting. Should I sand this down flat before installing?

Mine was like that, it wasn't smooth under the footwels. I didn't sand that part, I just sanded the smooth parts, I should I sanded all of it, it makes for a better contact surface.

No, there is no need to sand. As long as the surface is super clean, not greasy and really dry they will stick very well. The 3mm adhesive that comes on the mats is enough to seal the rivet holes. Use a small roller to apply evenly.
