Watching everyone else ride from shore while I wait for my starter to come in tomorrow. Post some videos or pics of you guys shreddin this weekend. Quick question. Who knows how to push start a seadoo?[emoji13]

Hi Brian,

I don't know if this will make you feel better or not. We just got back from the lake, and this doesn't happen often, but it was just too HOT to stay there. The thermometer says 91 but it's really humid and no breeze. The AC really feels good.

Seriously, the Northeast sux right now. I'd love 88-98 degrees and a boat load of humidity right now instead of 78-80 and no humidity. I'm in late September weather right now and have been for the last few weeks. It's almost cold enough over night to keep meat outside.

That being said, Brian hop on and go for a ride. This was a month ago, when it was hot out. Get yourself a little fix!

Oh I'm definitely riding tomarrow as long as starter shows up. Throw it in quick and have wife dump me in before she leaves for work. This is the first week all year it's been hot here. Heat index is 102 here tomarrow.

On the topic you can fit a skidoo pull start and coupling to the stock flywheel. Just have to find the right size, cut a hole in the mag cover (717 and under) bolt it on and you now have a backup.

The other option is a belt start. but that would be pretty tricky on the water :P

Well lookie here!!!!

If I didn't have a spare I rebuilt I would bid on it.

And you'd be buying an aftermarket POS starter. I am almost 100% sure that is a china starter. How you ask????????????? Look at the rear mount bracket.

1. It doesn't touch the stud nut on the underside, the OEM stud has a much taller nut with a much thicker flange.

2. The rear bracket mount is bottomed out on the strengthening webs on the back of the starter. OEM's have clearance.

3. The end retainer (on the shaft of the starter) that slips over the retaining ring has a slight groove that is offset short side to the end of the shaft so you know it goes on one way, aftermarket does not have that.

4. An OEM starter is more than $85 as he has listed

5. It's not clocked correctly for a 717 OR a 787. But more importantly, the nose cone is not tapped to accept screws like a 787 requires.

6. If you look at the rear of tha starter you can tell on a Denso starter they cap is radiused smoother, where the A/M has a defined angle on it.

7. NEVER take a sellers word for it. It should have a Nippon Denso label on it, although it most likely would be painted over since their(Nippon) replacement starters are painted a semigloss/flatish black, not glossy like the China jobbies. The label should be the same size as the one on an OEM starter about an 1-1/4" X 3/4".

How's that for a quick education on those starters? Sorry, I get lost in the details.

You can see the gap under the rear mount.

That nut is added to get to the correct height, also you can see the defined angle on the black starter vs. the smooth radius on the white OEM starter.

You can see the groove marking the correct installation

Last two show the difference in height--measured.
