Hi..

I just bought an Xp 2001 in pristine condition... however I have noticed that I have stress cracks on all the 4 bolts holding the Venturi Assy (271 001 079) the part that need replacing is the Impeller Housing assy (271 001 143) the owner claimed that this has been like this for 2 yrs and never had any problems with it...

So I am asking should I change this or leave this as it is? Did you guys have this sort of problem? Someone also suggested that I can alu weld these!!!

I have attached some photos in case I did not explain myself correctly..

Thanks
Michael

you could try some epoxy, or if you are concerned replace it. my guess is someone tightened the bolts too much and cracked them. but even with small cracks, it should hold up. even if you lose 2/4 on a trip you'd still have steering to get back to the trailer...

Hi.. Thanks for your help..

I have another concern now that my friend brought to my attention..

As I already said this is a 2001 model and the colour of the ski is red with a red hull

owner said that he sprayed the Hull to red because he did not like the black hull so that I know but what about the ski (deck etc) this is a carb model and I can’t find somewhere that these were red the only red I found is a 2003 DI

I am still in process of buying this and would like to know what you guys think as this is my first ski and don’t want to rush and end up rebuilding the engine

Well... those colors don't match to anything.

Yes the 2003 Di was all red... but the stickers were different. But it would have been a lot of work since the 2001 would have been black silver and yellow. Even the hull trim was a different color.

Somebody did a lot of paint work on that one, with some custom decals. Are you sure it is a 2001? Check the VIN plate last 2 digits. If it is, the hull was black and painted red, the deck was silver and painted red. the hood was silver, and painted black. the plastic fairing was yellow, and painted half red and half black. handlebar pad was black and painted red. I would look closely at all these parts because instead of painted, they could have been replaced by other year models with those colors but I'd be vary leary about those parts being painted as they tend to not last, chip, peel, flake over time. It takes an expert painter to paint a hull and make it last and the best way to do it is to spray gel coat and polish out, not paint.

Hi

Thanks for all your help here...

I just called and cancelled the sale!!! owner was left without words when I told him that this has been sprayed all over!!

And he never mentioned that he sprayed the entire ski... very UN genuine most prob he needed to repair the hull and deck in an extensive manner!!

Much obliged to all of you here..

Now I am looking at another one 2001 but this time not sprayed!!! :P

Will keep you all posted with photos as well

Michael

i've been having a hell of a time on craigslist w/people. either it's over priced, they don't know what it is, they cant take photos, they won't answer their emails, its like they don't want to make a sale!

that XP is neat w/the custom paint, i wouldn't cancel a sale just because of paint, just renegotate the price.... does the engine work? do the guages work? MPEM works?

The XP is crack cocaine fun... I know. I have one :)

Yep Craigslist is rough. There are some good local deals to be had... but you are right about all of it. I see a TON of overpriced crap... or stuff that needs to be sent to the junkyard... or my favorite... no response to the emails/txt.

Here's one I saw the other day. This falls under the category of... "Are you smokin' crack?"

The guy wants $4900 for a 97 GTX.

i wouldnt end the sale all together id really go over it with a fine tooth comb and ask him for a ride... even a 5 minute jolt down the river, lake will show you if their is any issues.. look at gauges do some slow pulls off plain than do a few blasts and see how it runs it may run like a champ.. and if its not 100% you can always negotiate the price down a bit...

2001 has the black fuel lines but in general it may just need some tlc and to be rode to get things working together.

the color is a flag for me but in reality its different and id just pull the stickers and ride it out as a custom paint/gel might even scoop up a set of these bad boys to look crazy

as far as craigslist its a nightmare as a seller or buyer anymore with bots and sales people trying to sell stuff for you and the lack of communication.. my 98 xpl was posted i responded within 4 days and it took him a month to respond to me.. i was very dumb and bought it within 2 minutes of hitting his driveway(allot going on and just lack of time) ive had to do the tlc stuff but all in all for what i payed i cant complain i got a ski that runs with a trailer does it run perfect.. nope.. does it run sure does... can it be fixed by a general mechanic or back yard guy.. i guess may take me longer but with the help of the board and the various resources i think it can have it back to like new very soon..
