Hi guys,

Well... it's official... I put my skis to bed for the winter. It was killing me because it was a nice day. (mid 70's) BUT... it's been cold at night, and they are calling for a chance of wet snow on Sat night to Sun morning. Because of that... the water is getting cold, and I don't want to chance a cracked engine. So... I gave them a bath, and fogged the engines. I park them at my shop... so I don't have to put antifreeze in them.

Oh well. I'll keep the boat ready, in case we get a few nice days later in the month. The Merc engine is self draining, so I don't have to worry about cracking it.

Hear yah man!! Put ski to bed last weekend. Likely doing boat tomorrow morning. Oh and by the way I finally got that 4tec pump on its way. Should see it in a week or two.

Today was 80 degrees here in NYC and I did not go ridin... I should have taken the day off and went :( I'm gonna regret that ALL winter... Gonna winterize this week

Whats the coldest you have ever rode in? Reason I ask im heading out tommorow its suppose to be 55 ive got a 5mil wetsuit. Im going out for maybe a hour to test my gsxl I just put a new wear ring on. Also helping a friend find a leak in his spx also get to ride his stand up which will be my first time ever riding one. I will winterize in next week or so bring out sleds wait a few months and hope for snow.

Into each life a little rain (or snow) will fall. I'm hoping to get a couple of more rides in before I put the ski's up for the winter. Last year I rode through the end of October but I don't think I'll be that fortunate this year.

When I lived up north and had my snowmobiles, I couldn't wait for winter to go riding. Winter would come, we'd get $#!T for snow and I'd get pissed after a couple years of that and sell my sled. Never failed, the following winter we would get HAMMERED with snow lol. Overall though, all my excitement over winter usually just turned into a cold, slushy, miserable several months. That's why we're glad to be in FL now :D. We have our boat that we brought down with us and the skis I just picked up. Plan on using them to their fullest :).

It was beautiful here today, I had a lot to do today, but I couldn't resist taking the GTX out on the lake this evening. I gave it a good deep cleaning this after so it will be ready for winterizing, but I'm just waiting week to week to see when I should winterize. The water in the lake I live at is still at around 70 degrees and temps in the 70's for the next week, so i am waiting. The only positive for me about winter coming is I get to start work on my new toy :D Ive always got the quads to ride too which is fun.

I've ridden in some cold water. I use to own a spring, and full wet suit... but as I get older... I realize that I ride my skis to enjoy the warm weather, and to socialize. When it starts to get cold... the only other people on the water, are fisherman, and it's not as "Enjoyable." So... when the weather starts to change... I just put them away.

With that said... I like to pull them out early in the spring... and we will get a freak 80 degree day when the water is still in the 40's. I like to ride a few times before the trees are green.

In Pitt PA... the weather is nutz in October and November. I've seen blizzards, and 80 degree weather. That's why I'm keeping the boat ready to run. I figure I will get at least one more run before the real winter comes.

Yup same put the ski away for the winter today :( sad day but at least she's in heated storage! when the temps are 60 degrees and the water is 55 it's just not fun to ride anymore.

What lake are you on? I visit my daughter in Nashville a few times a year and want to make some excuse to ride through Chattanooga so I can hit the river there. Probably going to run Percy Priest next summer.

putting skiis to bed for winter? that's crazy talk, I'll try to go riding this weekend, and prob next weekend, and .......

yup same here, i was in denial that the cold weather is coming but a 40 degree morning snapped me out of it and this weekend i will pull the skis and take the boat out for 1 last ride before i pull it out for the winter. just put up a brandy new 20' deep x 13' wide x 12' tall shelter logic garage in a box to put all the toys in for the winter and will have heat in it so i can go out and work on them and make them all pretty for next season. ive got too many things to do to get ready for the cold weather to wait till the last minute to pull everything. after the skis and boat come out the docks have to come out or they will end up in the middle of the lake when the ice tears them off and drags them out. learned that the hard way already once. with that said ... i will see you all next year

HAHA......me and the lady went riding yesterday with the wet suites on....it was about 52 degrees and went down to around 35 the night before so it was a little chilly but we did it....havent winterized yet

Maybe I can help you guys out, my FIL just gave me a uscg survival suit complete with top, pants, boots, and hood

I have all kinds of dive gear, just don't want to deal with the suits just so we can go riding.

I am going to move to a warmer climate next year so we can enjoy more time on the water.

Winter is pretty and all, but I think I am done with the cold.

I grew up in SoCal... so the "Winter" was that month or two that you just didn't feel like taking them out. (Feb/March)

CoastalJoe... I'm with you. I hate winter. In Pitt... it snows just enough to be annoying. When I was young... I loved skiing... but in PA... the lift tickets are overpriced... the slopes are small... the snow is thin... and the COLD !!!!!!!!

Yep,,, we need to go to NY to get some decent slopes..

I live in the snow-belt, it is not uncommon to be NAILED when it does snow. I grew up here (Ohio) and I am very tolerant to the seasons that this location brings. But,,, I will be 49 in Decenmber and I want to be able to enjoy where I am more than just 4 to 5 months a year.

I have over 20 grand in my skis and in 3 seasons I have less than 25 hours on them,,,

I am like a two minute ride down my road to Chickamauga lake, right near the TVA dam. Its a nice lake but my favorite place to ride is the lower lake on the other side of the dam, Nickajack. They call it a lake but it looks like a river to me lol. I launch right at the bottom of signal mountain, probably the most beautiful place I have ever ridden my skis at down in the gorge. I took a picture the other day from the top of signal mt. looking over the river/lake, this it where the gorge starts. If you ever do come up this way, let me know, I would definitely go for a ride if I don't have the skis put up yet

Dr have you ever been to Camelbak? I was up there this summer for a wedding and enjoyed it, I was wondering how the skiing was because I was thinking about trying to go back sometime in the winter. We had a blast at the water park there this summer, I was pretty impressed with the place.

OUCH !!!!!!

I have a ton of $$$ tide up in my toys... but for some reason... once I hit Pittsburgh... I have only been able to bring myself to buy used water toys. My last "New" PWC was a 2000 Yamaha XL760. Ever since then... I can't justify the price tag of the new skis. (Since they get parked 5~6 mo)

I don't think I have $10k into all of my water toys right now. I have about $7500 into my Islandia... $2500 into BOTH of my skis, on the double trailer... and $600 for my superjet. Ok... that's $10,600... But that's a lot of toys. (I sold the old Si a couple years ago. It was a fun resto project)

That's what it was like living in NEPA as well. Snowed enough to be annoying and make daily life miserable, but not enough to enjoy winter activities :(.

Haha, when we lived in PA, we bought our Speedster 150 new in 08 and our Cub Cadet lawn tractor in 09. By the time we moved to FL in early '11, the tractor had more hours on it than our boat :(. That has changed since moving! Our yard looks like crap, but we are having a lot of fun out on the boat lmao! Well, were having fun until the SC decided to nuke itself :(. Now the skis are my excuse for not doing yard work :D.

Is that Nickajack along I24 as you head towards Nashville from the I75 junction? God's country I say, beautiful place. Would definintely love to come ride that. It might be too late this year but it's a dry ride on this couch if I want it to be. I might try to sell one and pick up that carbed RX near me for some extra top end. Oops, now I'm derailing this thread. Sorry Doc. YouCan, I will PM you if I get a chance to head that way!

Doc I do not recognize the brand of extended trim tabs on the back of your 96XP. Do you know they are called?
